So. Apparently, I've discovered that if your landlord wants to sell the place you're in, and you weren't advised of this before the time you entered the agreement, you can legally terminate your tenancy without having to pay out the rest of the lease.

I recently went through this mate. I had a lease untill August this year but the owner sold the house and the new owners wanted to live in it.

I could of broken the lease with no penalty to me, they can't get you to move out untill the end of the lease. in the end the seller of my house paid for a removal for me and refunded the bond without me having to clean, he also gave me $350 cash to reconnect foxtel internet etc.

Wow!

There's all these things I have learnt in the last few days. Landlords and RE Agents have you believe you have no foot to stand on, but in reality the Fair Trading laws have the back of the tenant when stuff happens.

Yep - and it's all very easy to find on the internet too.

In the middle of a similar thing here in the US at the moment - landlord has been foreclosed by the bank.

The banks legal team tried to come in heavy with a 30 day to vacate notice and were sent packing after being made aware of state law - minimum of 90 days as long as rent is on time.

We have another place lined up but FMD I hate moving.

Only with broken schnoz's, luckily my face got through unscathed although you wouldn't be able to tell considering how good it looks at the best of times lol

That's intense; I feel like I know part of what you're going through.

I hate moving as well. It's frustrating and stressful. Add a pregnant wife to the mix and things get annoying.

Yeah, glad the wife isn't pregnant for the stress of it all at our end. Still, moving with a 6 month old won't really be a doddle either.

Good luck Drew

I'm pretty lucky.

The house I live in my dad and his wife bought it before we moved in.

So we have an unlimited lease and no increase in rent anytime soon.

Only problem is their financial advisor told them to still go through a real estate for tax purposes so we still have to put up with the bullshit from them.
