So if I asked you about art you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michelangelo? You know a lot about him. Life’s work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientation, the whole works, right? But I bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You’ve never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling. Seen that.

If I asked you about women you’d probably give me a syllabus of your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can’t tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy.

You’re a tough kid. I ask you about war, and you’d probably, uh, throw Shakespeare at me, right? “Once more into the breach, dear friends.” But you’ve never been near one. You’ve never held your best friend’s head in your lap and watched him gasp his last breath, looking to you for help.

And if I asked you about love you probably quote me a sonnet. But you’ve never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone could level you with her eyes. Feeling like! God put an angel on earth just for you… who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn’t know what it’s like to be her angel and to have that love for her to be there forever. Through anything. Through cancer. You wouldn’t know about sleeping sitting up in a hospital room for two months holding her hand because the doctors could see in your eyes that the term visiting hours don’t apply to you.

You don’t know about real loss, because that only occurs when you love something more than you love yourself. I doubt you’ve ever dared to love anybody that much. I look at you; I don’t see an intelligent, confident man; I see a cocky, scared shitless kid.

But you’re a genius, Will. No one denies that. No one could possibly understand the depths of you. But you presume to know everything about me because you saw a painting of mine and you ripped my f**kin’ life apart.

You’re an orphan right? Do you think I’d know the first thing about how hard your life has been, how you feel, who you are because I read Oliver Twist? Does that encapsulate you?

Personally, I don’t give a shit about all that, because you know what? I can’t learn anything from you I can’t read in some f**kin’ book. Unless you wanna talk about you, who you are. And I’m fascinated. I’m in.

But you don’t wanna do that, do you, sport? You’re terrified of what you might say.

Your move, chief.

Fitting pic BF. Probably your finest post on LU.
Yes, well played BF.

Thanks guys - that was one of the most touching moments in a Disney movie I've ever seen, along with this :(

Tragic how such a fantastic member of society, immensely talented and loved by all, was crippled by depression. Really does happen to the best of us.

Pffft

You'd turn gay for slice of ham and pineapple and a vodka cruiser

My life's work is to emulate the Dugan :')

Can hit anyone at any time - and the sad thing is no matter how much we try, we really are imprisoned by the power that depression has over us :(

strangely enough, news.com.au ran this story today, and it started out as "15 actors who almost got the roles" and one of them was robin williams nearly getting the role of jack in "the shining"

http://www.news.com.au/entertainmen...favourite-movies/story-e6frfmvr-1227021272782

got me thinking how good an actor he was...

and then about 10 mins later the sad news of his passing came through.. and they dropped him out of the story...

but so strange that he was so recently in my thoughts before the news of his passing...

Really sad news about Robin Williams. My Twitter and Facebook feeds have been flooded with sadness and with renewed calls for people to take mental health issues more seriously. I hope that the people who are professing such sadness take a moment to ask those around them how they really are, and also to make a donation - however small - to a group such as the Black Dog Institute.

Going through a low patch myself at present...seeking help so all good.

I'm glad I'm back in Australia so that I can get help. I was diagnosed with MDD a few years ago now, but China doesn't make seeking help at all easy. I managed to find medication, but it was costing me $120 a month when I'd paid $30 a month here in Australia.

Soon as I'm settled in, I'll be hitting up my GP to review my medication and tracking down a suitable therapist again.

The way the forum helped me out raising all that money towards Beyond Blue was so meaningful to me. I hope all you that donated, it's reiterated how amazing you are for doing so.

Just saw the quick tribute to Robin Williams on a current affair.

Such a terrible shame that a person who brought so much happiness and laughter to others couldn't find happiness for himself.

An absolute genius and tremendously talented actor. The world is a lesser place for his passing.

I can't say I've experienced it personally. I've seen it in others, and I hate to say this, both real and fake. The latter being someone very close to me that it's sickening to think about to this day.
I see comments from people on Facebook and at work (just reminding you all that I work in a factory that is very...how would you put it...blokey). They say stuff like:

"This really proves that depression is a serious thing"
"He was so happy he had money and everything he could ever want how could he be so sad"

And yadda yadda. You get my point.

I don't understand it one bit. Reading an article Dani posted on Facebook before showed me some of the errors I, and many others have made talking to people. Whether things come from a good place or not, the impact could be similar. Let's not forget about this horrible disease after today, better yet, let's not forget until the next person takes their own life.

The nay sayers can finally shut the f**k up about depression being nothing more than an excuse or linked to any sort of weakness. Some of the people who openly suffer (for real, obviously) are some of the strongest people I've ever met. Much stronger than myself.

As for Robin Williams, he is well and truly the funnyman for the generation, no matter which generation you were born in. I remember loathing Mrs Doubtfire thanks to having studying it in English in Year 11, I remember buying Jumanji the board game and remembering my sister (very easily convincable) that it was just like the movie.

Brilliance, and my condolences. On a side note, one of his greatest loves was video gaming. He named his only daughter after Princess Zelda. Would love to see Nintendo repay the favour by having a character in the next game dedicated to him.
