NORM Pattison came up with a cracker of an idea to propose to his long-time girlfriend last weekend.
Norm is the type of guy that likes to do things outside the box and fly by the seat of his pants.
So when he decided the best way to pop the question was to have seven mates flash their rear ends at his partner Briana Davis, his Goldfield Ashes cricket team was happy to bend over and play a part.
On Sunday, the Riverside Boys lined up along the boundary and dropped their shorts to reveal the words “marry me” scrawled from cheek to cheek.
“I took a knee with our four-year-old son and I got him to say ‘I think you should marry dad’,” Norm said.
“I got the boys to spell it out and the son to coax her into it.”
Norm said he and Briana had been together for seven years – and she had been bugging him to propose for at least five – so he had plenty of time to sit back on his keister and come up with a plan.
“I’ve been thinking of what to do for a while and I usually come up with some pretty wild ideas,” Norm said.
“This time I found one that felt like something I would do.”
Briana said it may not have been the most traditional proposal, but it is one she would never forget.
“It was a huge surprise,” she said. “He definitely is one to go the extra mile, not in a romantic sense that’s for sure, but he definitely thinks outside the box.”
The happy couple agreed the proposal fit in with the spirit of the Goldfield Ashes and Australia Day.
“It was very Aussie,” Briana said.
“I’ve got to thank the great bunch of blokes involved, and the women who had to write on their a***s – they were fantastic.”
No date has been set for the wedding, but Briana isn’t wasting time sitting about on her derrière – planning is well under way.
“I’ve already got everyone on speed dial,” she said.
“Caterers and venues are ready to go, Norm just doesn’t know it yet.
“I’m going to have to write ‘I do’ on my butt or something on the day.”
