So I've stuffed up

I had an intensive course last week, and I swear I had checked out and confirmed the dates, but I basically thought it would then run into the first week of uni this week.

Turns out I was wrong. Uni starts next week

Positive - I am on holidays until next wednesday, which is pretty sweet.

Negative - due to the way my timetable works, i have labs for one subject every second week, and one every week. I've been aching to go to the snow for a while, and was coordinating with a cousin in melbourne and family in NZ to go over for about 6 days (four on snow) in mid august, on the week I did not have a thursday lab.

Because of my stuff up, the week I thought was free is when I actually do have a lab. So i basically can't go away. Haven't booked anything, because I was waiting to make ssure I had nothing assessable in that time, so that's nice. Still though, I've wanted a trip to the snow for a long time and this was a great opportunity.

I'm so annoyed with myself.

i understand your unhappiness..

had you chosen to move to melbourne instead of sydney, the feeling you would have right now is one of elation..

so.. in effect you have brought this melancholism upon yourself...

shame on you.

Truth be told, Baltimore was a breath of fresh air after Melbourne.

All the pretensions, the stuffiness, the desperation to be recognised. None of that here.

There is the occasional small riot though...

We also live a block away from the first place I'd really call my local. I'll miss it terribly.

Thanks man, I'll drop your name all over the shop...

careful..

i once started work at a place where someone from my previous workplace used to work before he came over..

anyway, when meeting my first few people at the new company, when they heard where i had came from, everyone was asking if i knew the guy, if we were mates etc..

seemed like he was pretty well known there..

so i just started dropping this guy's name into discussions pretty early on..

until i discovered the reason he had left there in the first place..

they had a conference, he was sharing a room with someone senior in the business, got really drunk and mistook this guy's shoes for the toilet...

CLM if ever there was one..

not saying drew did that, of course..

but... not saying he didn't, either...

I get the sentiment, but it isn't that bad ;-)

More and more these days, I find myself cringing whenever I hear the name mentioned. We're just so backwards, and being abroad only heightens my awareness of it.

That being said, I haven't found any countries who have it better than us medically, socially, or educationally - I just wish we didn't so fully embrace the small country mentality. We don't have the population to be a global force, but it would be nice if we didn't come across like small town hicks on the international stage.

Good man. Don't listen to muzby, he's a Steelers fan...

Ha, I was a long time ago (left mid 2011); I'd be surprised if anyone remembered me.

I was a pup then anyway. Made mistakes, as we all do; not big ones, but I had a few kicks up the bum by my boss until I finally got the picture and performed.

Things have changed since, but I am always careful due to the below:

I didn't piss in any shoes... :sarcasm:

You're always going to get bad press from us overseas. People pick the shit out because its newsworthy; we have the most abominable PM, are breaking international laws (refugees etc) and are pretty racist. That gets headlines.

But the country is still a good play to live, as you say above. We won't break the small country mentality every. Its part of our DNA. We simply need to learn our place and remember small countries need to hold their tongue more.
