Watching all this news coverage of Qld is seriously depressing.
just switched over to it a little while ago. it's pretty immense. it's the speed at which the water arrives and rises/gets more intense that freaks me out.

10 dead, 78 missing. sad.

Well Im in the NW suburbs of Brissy and we arnt doing too badly but I did have to haul arse in from out near Ipswich this morning or I would have gotten stuck out there. The amount of water that came through Toowoomba was insane and the poor bastards had pretty much zero warning. Now all of that is heading towards Brissy and its not gonna be pretty.

If the water coming downriver isn't enough, it seems tonight is a fking king tide for Brissie...madness

Is there a more extreme country in the world than Australia?

Last couple of years have been insane. Drought, bushfires, massive hail storms and now mammoth floods. Crazy stuff.

It's a pretty hectic place, for sure. We always cop the brunt of El Nino, as we saw with the years of drought, and now it seems La Nina has decided to be a dirty whore.

with all this crap weather we have these huge low pressure systems which result in extremely high tides, hence while the river is trying to empty itself, the ocean is coming in to meet it and hold it up in the river systems

Nice bright sunny day, though it is starting to cloud over again. Thankfully where we are is well away from river and elevated.

I look out over the Tweed valley into Coolangatta. The sun is out in NSW but there is this huge black wall at Coolangatta and a huge shadow over the place, its so dark you cant see any of the buildings, its a huge down pour.

This weather really is crazy.

My cousin died last night. Cancer. He was only 30.

Although they gave him 6 weeks 3 years ago, in a way i'm glad he's not in pain any more it was horrible to see him, especially over the past 6 months. He'd wasted away to 50kg and just opening his eyes hurt him to no end. Apparently the type he had only around a dozen other people in Australia have.

Leaves behind a wife and 4 year old son, that's the worst.

Sorry to hear that Dani, God sh*t is just awful all around.

With these floods, the weird thing is seeing CBD's under water and suburbs etc, when we're used to seeing mainly rural areas hit by floods, so it's kinda closer to home this time for city dwellers.
What a sh*tty start to 2011.

Yep, it sucks big time seeing them so frail and lifeless. My Aunty died of cancer a little over a year ago. Before that she had a really active life: five kids (all grown up, some with kids of their own), keen tramper, keen intellect. Was sad to see her confined to her house and wasting a way for as long as she did, as you say, it's good that they're not in pain any more but man it sucks sh*t. Hope all is good and he gets a decent send off.

Hey Dani...Kia Kaha (be strong).

My Dad passed away from cancer as well. Devastating to watch someone you know pass like this but your cousin is now not in pain.
