The Chairman sounds confident.

And why wouldn't he be, based on weight of popular opinion evidenced in the public submissions.

It's just those pesky Agency Submissions who wouldn't come to the party. But hey, who's going to listen to them anyway. After all who are those Agencies anyway?

Just the government.

Most objectors I know are in there 30s, old enough to be wise to the BS spread by the Sharks.

Saving the Sharks which may or may not be true. But not a planning consideration.

One may be a founding member of your club. Others life members who commented on the 18,000 members, only 400 turned up to the rally and around 50 were anti-development protestors.

I think there was a comment about holding in it in the only available open space.:D

They value the amenity of the area and the environment. Quite common to hear Sharks' life members say let it die, the area is far morre important than the opinions of supporters who live at Engadine and Menai.

I can't believe my first post is in reply to this dribble!! Coupe you are a goose!
You are either ignorant or lacking common sense - which is it?

That is a flat out, bald faced, brazen lie. You are slipping r2coupe. There were more like 4 anti protestors there, up the back in their straw hats, whispering and nattering to each other. And they were in their 50s.

Most objectors I know are in there 30s, old enough to be wise to the BS spread by the Sharks.

I know a few objectors. Only 2 are in their 30s. None are in their 20s and most are 50+. One is 96 and I am not joking.

Saving the Sharks which may or may not be true. But not a planning consideration.

The figures are there to be seen. The clearing of the debt alone will "save" the club. This is not a debateable point.

I have heard only one life member in opposition to the development and I know a few (unless Capsis is a life member, and if he is his membership should be revoked). His name is Jack and he is about 806 years old and while he was a very good for the Sharks in the 70s now he is just a pain in the arse. The rest of them, to a man, is in total support of the plan. Gow, Healy, ET, etc etc etc.

Coupe, a serious question, have you been out of Shire lately? Are you aware that Cronulla and Caringbah actually lacks a modern, vibrant restaurant/entertainment zone? The mall and beachfront is tired and needs shaking up. Compare it to say, Bondi Junction or Coogee beach, or Noosa. If you want your property prices to continue increasing, you need "amenity" (your word not mine) and a development like this will rocket the area into the 21st century.

Go have a look around. Look at what they did in Rhodes. Look at the Bondi Junction entertainment precinct (restaurants, movies). Then tell me that this is a sh*t development.

I just started seeing a new chick who lives in Bondi. We went to dinner/movie at Bondi Junction the other night. Normally, I f**king hate shopping malls and had NO DESIRE at all to go. Man was I surprised because my main experience had been at Westfield Miranda or Cronulla Mall. We had an awesome dinner in a sweet chinese restaurant. The food court has a range of high quality options and there is a view back over the city. Then headed up to a movie, two kinds of cinemas, gold class and pleb. All in all was a great night out, and to be frank it shit all over Cronulla and Miranda as an entertainment option.

I believe the developers are using this as their tempate....

I only want to talk about how good the development is going to be. Let r2coupe stew in his geriatric juices.

Also, the pro development website generated over 1000 letters from people all around Australia. They have published some "heat maps" that show where the support came from geographically. So the theory that is only out of towners has been absolutely blown to smithereens.

Newman,

I can attest to that as well. For a long time i've had to continually visit into Bondi over the years and for anyone who is only new to visiting the area, you would absolutely not even be able to contemplate what the junction looked like 10 years ago.

All of what you mentioned in regards to their shopping, food + entertainment is brilliant and shit's all over Miranda.

People only appreciate things after they are built.

Sharks plan gains favour

BY MURRAY TREMBATH

More than 2000 public submissions are being collated following the end of the exhibition period for the Cronulla Sharks’ development plan.
A total of 1025 submissions, received by November 10, are already on the NSW Department of Planning’s website, and it is understood well over 1000 more were received by Monday’s deadline
Planning officials said it was not an unusually big response for a major project, with a recent proposal attracting 30,000 submissions.
Many letters and emails on both sides of the argument were pro formas. Submissions came from as far as Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria.
The Planning Assessment Commission will hold a public meeting before making a decision about April.
Sharks chairman Damian Irvine said the club was encouraged by the fact that 60 percent of submissions posted on the website so far favoured the development.
He said people were more inclined to make submissions when they opposed change and normally only about 10 percent were supportive.
Mr Irvine and Cronulla MP Mark Speakman, who opposed the scale of the project, agreed the decision would come down to the weight of the cases.
Mr Speakman said the commission would ‘‘get to see everything, not just the edited view of the Department of Planning’’ and it was not an ‘‘all or nothing’’ decision, with the commission able to ask for modifications.

Watch the Web
A NSW Department of Planning spokesman said all submissions made by the closing date would be posted on its website shortly.
The proponent would then be asked to prepare a response to all submissions and could request design modifications and additional information.
This response and any additional information provided would also be published on the department’s website.
The spokesman said the department would then prepare and send its assessment report to the commission, which would determine the application.
Should the department take its time to consider all the submissions?

There is also another article, which isnt listed on the website (you can read it by clicking megalodons link) that talks about the Shires failings in servicing and supporting major businesses and how the area needs a modern business park because the economy is really suffering. I honestly believe that us Shire-ites put the blinkers on to some of the negatives of our own area. Sure, its a beautiful place to live, but many of the amenities are a long, long way behind other areas.

The point on business in the Shire has hit home. Now learn as per the Leader, the continental Carbon Black Plant at Kurnell is closing down.

The Fisheries going.Would the last business to leave please turn off the lights, except the one for Harold Holt.

The Green Hills development will have 400 odd houses. Those people will need to shop somewhere for groceries and medical needs. So we shove them into the already crowded Cronulla shopping precinct.Brilliant.
