Tasmanian Rugby League

Sad news for the Tasmanian who really loved the game and wanted it to succeed in the apple isle. I can only imagine that some people put in a lot of hard work and now that effort means nothing. Don't give up as you should never say never.

But in the overall scheme Tasmania was never going to be a big factor in the future success of the game here in Australia. So not having the game played down there is not going to damage the goods. I suspect that the death of the game in Tasmania will not even make the news here in Sydney. Did it get a mention in the Tassie press?

Just for clarification there are four Clubs in Tassie. One is in the North West three in Hobart. The new Hobart Club forfeited a home game yesterday and had about 6 players.
The comp cannot survive with three Clubs.

Sad indeed elbusto. A sad time for the game and passionate supporters like you mate. :(

I hate the arseholes that run our great game. I just don't get how league has so many false hopes that end up in charge, who talk epically and then fail so spectacularly. What a joke of a game.

Sorry again elbusto, it's just not right, I feel for you mate.

Thanks mate. That is greatly appreciated. I have decided to re-engage with Union locally and I am now involved with putting my energy into a Tassie team that will be playing in a national sevens tournament in March.

I will never engage in local League again. I am not getting burned by these short sighted goons again.

Good luck and all the best. These boneheads in league land don't deserve the good will efforts people like you have given them for free for years. Maybe you'll fine a more appreciative lot in the Union boys.

Cheers

Really sorry to hear about that elbusto, it's sad to see that despite there being some positive changes at the top, there's still so much deadwood in the NRL and idiotic decisions being made. The NSW/QLD centrism is infuriating, even more so given that they can't even get it right there. The NRL is very Sydney-centric, yet they've left one of the wealthiest areas of the city (the North Shore) sitting there in limbo without any active engagement for over a decade- it would take so little to change the situation (and the rewards would be so great) that the fact nothing has been done is mind blowing. For the NRL to keep growing, they have to get things like this right. Same goes with Tasmania etc, it would take so little to make positive changes- just a few development officers to engage locals and the game would be doing well. Investment needs to be made into the rest of Australia, that the ARLC/NRL is richer now than ever, yet can't be bothered stumping up the cash for some development officers in states other than NSW/QLD, speaks volumes.

They are doing the opposite down here - are insisting the Clubs pay up fees knowing the comp will almost certainly fold and have pretty much said the Clubs will not get their money back even if the comp only lasts a month.

They have alienated everybody down here. They have done nothing until it is too late to help the comp and they want the Clubs to cough up for a comp that is dead on its feet. It is unbelievable.

Sad, sad news mate. There was I suggesting you go for a grant from the ARLC to get a schoolboy comp up last year.

So you are a rugger bugger now, Patches on the coat sleeves, hey.

I have an idea - ask the Ram about his proposal to move the SFS from Moore Park to Central station, if we than place it on a train to Port Melbourne, ferry it across the Strait and place it in the middle of Hobart we might save the day.

That was one of the Ram's best. But he is genuine and passionate about league not like some of the arsewipes on here and in RLHQ who believe rugby league starts and ends with the NRL.

Take care my friend, enjoy the game you follow even if it is now rugby.

Read about the demise of Tasmanian RL with disappointment.

Why can the NRL not get involved as they have done in the top end:

NORTHERN Territory Rugby League is set to be debt free as of December 1, with the national governing body taking over in a radical restructure.

The NTRL has been in the red for about nine years, with current debt at about half a million dollars.
But following a governance review started 18 months ago, rugby league in the Territory will now be rebranded as NRLNT.
General manager John Mitchell was delighted with the result, describing it as the “re-birthing of rugby league in the Northern Territory”.
“To get that support from the NRL is very pleasing, not just in terms of assistance financially but all of the additional resources they’ve got available,” he said.
“The NRL brand is one of the highest profile brands in the country.
“It will solidify our sport going into the future and there’s some pretty exciting things ahead of us.”
Aussie Rules following a similar path about a decade ago when the AFL took over, which Mitchell admitted had been highly successful.
“I haven’t got any problems in saying how successful the AFLNT have been,” he said.
“Hopefully we can follow that same role model.”
The nine-person NTRL board will be reduced to three directors, with Mitchell to team up with a local business person and a representative from the NRL, both yet to be confirmed.
“We will make up the three-person board of the new business, the NRL representative will probably be the chief financial officer,” he said.
Mitchell paid tribute to chairman Mal Tomes’ efforts over the past three years.
Tomes will no longer be a part of the board once the restructure is in place.
“Our outgoing NTRL chairman Mal Tomes has done a marvellous job under enormous challenges,” Mitchell said.
“He has overseen the last three years of very difficult times.”
Next season’s competition will be the first under the banner NRLNT, but will remain as the same seven teams.
The 18-round 2015 draw is yet to be finalised, but Mitchell confirmed suburban grounds would get a good run as well as four matches in Katherine.
The Parramatta Eels will return to the Territory once again next year, playing a pre-season fixture in Alice Springs in February followed by a Top End home-and-away tussle in August as part of a deal with the NT Government.

Out of curiousity Elbusto, is / was there anyone assisting in the games development ( survival ???) that has been round since the mid / late 90's ?

Enquired into the TRL when holidaying there in 1997. Met a bloke in the street where a Tassie jersey who put me onto some contacts. Exchanged letters with the TRL late '97 (and probabaly still have them) but that was it.

As seem from a previous thread of mine the game was played there in the 50's for a short time as well.

So thats WA and NT that the NRL have effectively taken over the running of from the local game. Whilst WA was effectively a cull it seems NT were not in a strong position and will benefit from it hopefully.

Sorry to here el but fully understand.

The most frustrating thing is we are not talking big $'s to really get stuff happening. In the Pilbarra just the investment of one DO a few NRL in the community visits and some support has seen the game booming there. Probably cost less than $150k a year. With $1bill in the bank, an army of staff and a clear mandate for the game at all levels the NRL needs to get its finger it.

Still we all got shiny new logos!!

you always bring up this point and I always have to remind you it is because your piece of shit club.

No matter how bad the NRL is run. They will never be as self serving and dead set evil as clubs like the broncos, manly and arguably easts
