The TRL comprises of a four Team Senior competition based in Hobart played over summer between November and February. It is envisaged that we will also have a Northern based competition within the next two years.
The TRL also has a developing Junior Club base which includes under 17s Teams from Launceston and Hobart.
In addition to this the Australian Rugby League (ARL) has announced the appointment of a Junior Development Officer to be based in Hobart who will develop League all through out the State. Thousands of kids will be put through Rugby League clinics in Tasmania annually through this role.
We are also developing a State representative team which will play against a visiting Regional Team next year. The ARL has also announced that the best Tasmanian players will be selected to play in the Affiliated States Competition run by the ARL in 2011.
One of our best players, Sidney Fielea, was recently in the news after attending a trial with the NRL Club, the Canberra Raiders.
On top of all of this, the TRL is negotiating with the ARL for members of the NRL Club, the Melbourne Storm, to visit Tasmania as part of the National Community Carnival in February 2011. This should be confirmed shortly.
The ARL has also indicated interest in holding an NRL trial match perhaps in 2012. Admittedly, this will require a lot of future discussion with stakeholders including the State Government.
In recent weeks the TRL has enjoyed media coverage by both WIN television and The Mercury newspaper and we are looking to grow this relationship with these media outlets. HOFM radio station is also heavily supporting the TRL by way of regular weekly broadcasts during the coming season.
The TRL is also planning major social events for the general public to raise funds and awareness.
To sum all of this up, the TRL is making big strides in establishing Rugby League in Tasmania in partnership with the ARL.
