He was fit, last year, yet still not chosen, hopefully Brad pulls his head out of his ass and stop playing favourites ie Makatoa , JA
Im Emus biggest fan and like you I reckon he deserved a chance last year which was somewhat vindicated last week. That said I thought he was a tad disappointing last night and saw few minutes hopefully not as a result. He hit the line hard but his D was just passable. Fingers crossed he gets further chances.
Jake did his job as relief half last night but Id be concerned if hes on the bench to cover Hodgos shortcomings. Hodgos D wasnt great and a couple of brain explosions wernt in the game plan.
9 is a genuine concern I reckon with bugger all backup.
Hopgood was terrific as were Penisini, Cini, and Russell. The regulars all acquitted themselves well. Mitch was incredible. He is so tough in D now days.
Its so f'n exciting.

It wasn’t enough to change my mind and I still don’t think JA is up to NRL, but he did put on a lovely pass for Murchie? Agree with you on Wiremu. Offers much more than Maka
Do you only watch our team when they have the ball? Makatoa is a significantly better defender than Greig. It's fun watching some big bastard skittle merkins three or four times in 80 minutes but over that period, players like Makatoa contribute far more.

I agree with all ur points, though I don’t thin emu got too many minutes, Hodgo I think will be a toss of the coin this year, which is a concern, regarding Jake, I think his father will end up ruining a potential NRL career due to his nepotism, i feel for the kid

And if he doesn’t play emu, he will be snapped up very quickly, Brads decision often are not the smartest which shows on the park!!

ps
I’m glad ur excited 😆 me too

The fact we have to highlight a singular thing that Jake does well, vindicates the multitudes who say agree he is way off the pace…Emu is a GUN….just waiting for Brad to realise that

I get that there need to be contingencies, but given our starting forwards average minutes, I still think a low minute, high impact player would be good fit.

I agree there is potentially a place for Greig in our team. I just don't think he's worth as much as Makatoa. Limited minutes impact is pretty much his only possible role in the NRL. I'd say there would be plenty of big slugs who can do that. It's toilers with size that are harder to find, they are just easier not to notice.

How can we use hopgood and matto as a 1, 2 punch?

I like to see them both in the middle.

One takes the hitup andballplays, then a few plays later, the other one does it.

Can we carry one as prop

Matto is probably bigger than murchie who will play middle probably

Matterson is pretty much a prop already. Unless he plays out wide I expect him to play off the bench, in the middle, and take a lot of runs per minute. Hopgood will maybe play 80 and take fewer runs per minute than Matterson. He will be the middle half.

Wiremu has lost a heap of puppy fat but still struggled at times to get back into the defensive line. Just prior to halftime, he copped a minor leg injury and was down on his haunches behind the Newy attack for 2 tackles before making his way back into the line, and then didnt come back for the 2nd half (not that I saw anyway).
