Team v Titans- where the hell do we go to from here?

A few thoughts on comments on this thread -

Bodene Thompson is lazy and has no ticker. Has to go. End of.

Charlie Gubb is the least of the concerns. Yes, he doesn't have the go-forward of others, but as someone else has said, neither did Luck or Campion. Gubb is a very good defender and someone who at least gives his all in all areas of the game.

Tui Lolohea - whilst I agree with most on here about him, i'd say that he has spent the whole off-season on the right wing. Training & preparing to play there. He played the first game there, since then he has been placed at full back, when he clearly doesn't have the motor for that position & then at 6 with 5 minutes notice. Tough ask.
I'd still like to see an extended run on the right wing, with Fusitua inside him. I'm prepared to give him more time.

Ryan Hoffman - absolute waste of space. All talk, no actions, one of the worst signings in the last 5 years. Powder puff, can't hit a hole or run a decent line, crowds his ball player, terrible body language, no whack in defence. Piss off now you plod!

Shaun Johnson - can someone support him when he has the ball and runs!! Feel sorry for him. I couldn't blame him if he decided to have a look around.

Kata - what has happened?

Kearney - i'm worried, really worried. Like Blue's Clueless, i'm not sure he has the intelligence to get us out of it.

I really don't know where we go. It's going to be a long long week.

Disagree on Hoffman, but he did have a shit game

Thompson should be dropped immediately - he's a squad depth player TBH, always has been. No Gubb fan but two go forward props with him in 13 is workable (or Afoa) and Mannering on the edge. Mannering in the middle is to cover up the inadequacies of others, and then leaves us with just Lillyman as a go forward middle...

If we assume Gavet keeps this up and Mutts comes back soon, we might be able to dump Lisone and Vete and things could looks up.

Been sick of Bodene for a while, he has pretty looking numbers but his lack of commitment flat out gifts tries. He's one of our bottom three players.

I've started to give up on Hoff too, good player or not he is such a huge misfit for this club it's almost at Tomkins levels. He automatically expects excellence around him, he doesn't have it in him to inspire it and he's in an endless downward spiral of pure frustration

RTS and Luke are really worrying me, they're playing in career low form and it's gotta be our club in general that's doing it. Poor decision to hand him captaincy too.

Long, long year ahead.
I think Kearney has been told he has 3 years to turn things around.
So this year is all about deciding who has to go. The only reason I can see for not dropping some of the plonkers.
Remenber
Off Contract 2017

Matt Allwood
Blake Ayshford
Erin Clark
KieranForan
Charlie Gubb
James Gavet
Ryan Hoffman
Shaun Johnson
Jacob Lillyman
Mason Lino
Ben Matulino
CharnzeNicoll-Klokstad
Ofahiki Ogden
Jordan Pinnock
Nathaniel Roache
Ligi Sao
Patrick Sipley
Toafofoa Sipley
Bodene Thompson
Albert Vete

We already know Hoffman is going.
I would be surprised if Ayshford and Allwood remain.
So who would he re-sign from the rest?
You can only presume he is giving Tui every chance to impress before releasing him.(Though I only rate him as the eighth best half at the club. Behind Foran, Johnson, Hingano, Lino, Clark, Roache, Lisone and Wiki.

We need serious props. Here to build a reputation not fill a hammock. Someone's going to have to do some work and find some. NSW Cup and Queensland Cup might be a good place to start. Forget trying to develop juniors. It just doesn't happen.

So some of us saying axe this guy, axe that guy but for whom? We lack depth. So far its Gubb, Hoffman, Thompson, Luke, Maumalo, Afoa, Lolohea and Lisone thats been chucked on the chopping board on this thread. Im not sure if we have players in our reserve grade good enough to cover those guys. Remember, just cause youre good in reserve grade, does not mean you will be good at first grade. Even if youre exceptional in reserve grade like the Matautias were, does not mean you will cut it in first grade.

Luck and Campion weren't props. Gubb is, supposedly.

As somebody else mentioned, perhaps Gubb would be better at 13- although I think we still have better options. But maybe we're asking Afoa to play the game Afoa should be, and Afoa to play the game that Gubb should be?

Nobody has suggested dropping all of them.

2-3 changes maximum is possible, really.

I'm somewhat hopefully that Thompson and Johnson might be able to spark up their combination again. In a side where Johnson is begging for support, he might be the most likely to be on the end of a Johnson break.

If you read properly it says 'chucked on the chopping board' nor am I saying that somebody/anybody has suggested we drop ALL of the players mentioned. Its a collection of everyones wishes.

2017 is going to be an awesome year for recruiting because 1/2 the team needs the axe and I think SK and JD are weilding it like the old C64 game, Barbarian

well, a collection of everybody's wishes is nobody's wish, but ok whatever....we have 2-3 players that are at least arguably preferable to some of the names mentioned above.

I tell you all what f**king shits me, and that is the sight of McFadden on the field. That, to me, is symptomatic of why we will not succeed this year and why Doyle will be moving on. The guy who was a complete failure as a coach, and clearly didn't have the support of the side, is still there and in the ears of the players on field? WTF? Am I the only one who sees how f**king stupid this is and continues the trend of things of 'things the Warriors do that no one else in the NRL would' ie outside backs on the bench, wingers as props etc.

this

And it must be bloody soul crushing for him, by the way.

Well its what everyones saying. Axe this, axe that, axe, axe, axe. You have yours that YOU feel should be axed and others have theirs which wont be exactly the same as yours (e.g. one likes Gubb, do you like Gubb?).

My point is - we can axe easy but it can be hard to find a replacement given the stocks we have which I understand is struggling in their respective grades.

Our ISP team is going ok at the moment.

Look, I hear you...it's easy to point the finger and 'get rid of this guy', 'get rid of that guy'. It's easy to point to problems. It's harder to propose solutions. And the thing is, we're all just speculating and we don't all have the full picture. But that's the climate these blokes have created for their fans right now....if we pick and stick, there has to be some click.

Gubb is still a big problem for me. Watching Gavet and Lisone rumble up in tandem and the difference it made was a reminder that it's not much good having a great prop (Lillyman) when he is partnered by a Gubb.

Gubb is plod city
i think he played about 28 minutes yesterday

people got all excited about us having the kiwi spine but they forgot about the extra effort players make when playing for their country... and they are usualy one off games. not a 26 week season.
Plus, that spine used to operate behind a good pack full of players like JT, Marty Kapow, and Jesse B.

So put that spine behind our powderpuff pack and you can see the difference. we are shit. I wish it wasnt the case as i wont support another team. Which means i am stuck in this recurring nightmare for god knows how long.....

The kiwi test spine.

Have they actually played together before in a test. I dont think so
