Daniel Anderson is the bloke who is responsible for the team selections. I go along with his decisions. He know what is best for the team.
Eric is terrific carting the ball up, and finishing a scoring opportunity..but gee, he leaves you with your heart in your mouth when the ball is kicked to him, behind him, or the coming down his side in numbers.
And if you think otherwise, really you are having yourself on.
In saying that, he has been VERY good this season.

Hey they say that most attacking raids are on the left as its easier for someone to throw to the left. So why does grothe deffend out on the right where most the attacking raids are sent and the best centres/wingers play ? Ive always found that strange...

Could not have said it better pete, Ando knows this team better than anyone and i'm happy to go with any decision he makes.

Because in attack, right handed players are best to have on the right side of the field. Im fairly certain that Burt is left handed and Grothe is right handed.

In saying that, Im also certain that Grothe used to play on the left side of the field and always did play best on the left side of the field. I believe Hagan made the initial change to suit the Tahu and Inu combination and then paired up Ben Smith and Eric Grothe on the left.

Personally Id change it back because I think Eric played his best footy on the left, but Luke Burt is playing well enough on the left and he could be more of a defencive liability then Eric on the right.

Grothe looked EXHAUSTED in the final 5-6 minutes of the Rabbitohs game. He went to take a hitup and it just looked like Superman in a fat suit...

If he hasn't been able to train because of the injury, then there's no doubt his conditioning is suffering, and if he can't play the full 80, then I'm all for letting him rest the injury a week or 2 before returning.

The one thing this team NEEDS is Grothe's go forward early in the tackle counts.

It takes two as Eels double up once more

GREG PRICHARD

April 21, 2010

TWO club greats sharing the captaincy, double the incentive to win the premiership. That's how Parramatta young gun Daniel Mortimer predicts the Eels will react to coach Daniel Anderson's decision to stick with Nathan Cayless and Nathan Hindmarsh as co-captains for the rest of the season.
Anderson tested the water with the dual-leader concept against South Sydney last weekend, and yesterday named the veteran forwards as co-captains again for the game against North Queensland in Townsville on Friday night, explaining that it was ''the best thing for the team''.
Halfback Mortimer agreed, saying last night: ''Those two guys have done everything in the game except win the comp. It would be great to see one of them up there accepting the trophy, but the thought of both of them being up there, if we could win the comp, will drive us even more to try to do that.
''And this is the only year both of them could be up there together, since 'Caylo' is retiring at the end of the season. That's got to be our ambition, to try to get those guys that chance, this year. They are tremendous leaders, and so is Luke Burt, who has been here just as long.''
Anderson said Hindmarsh had warmed to the leadership role, and was providing long-time skipper Cayless with strong support.
''I have seen 'Hindy' take on a much more prominent leadership role through our tough times recently,'' Anderson said. ''Nathan is a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, but the captaincy brings different responsibilities to those that come with simply playing in the side, and it doesn't hurt for him to get used to those now.
''Nathan Cayless is trying to sort out his post-playing career, as well as doing his very best for the team, so it's probably good for him to share that captaincy responsibility. I think it worked well against Souths, and that it's the best thing for the team.''
Anderson named star winger Eric Grothe on a five-man bench to meet the Cowboys, with Joel Reddy returning from suspension to the centres and Krisnan Inu surviving in Grothe's place after filling in for Reddy against the Rabbitohs. But the coach said Grothe, who is set to miss the Cowboys game altogether, had not been dropped.
''The bottom line with Eric is that he was only able to train for 15 minutes for last week's game and 20 minutes the week before,'' Anderson said. ''He's been carrying injuries, and with Joel being back and Krisnan strong against Souths it gives us the chance to get Eric some treatment and for him to get some training under his belt.
''He's missed a lot of training with his injuries, and he needs to train. He got a rib injury against the Raiders and a knee injury the week before. Normally, I don't use players unless they can train. I just don't think it's suitable, but we were down on players with Joel out so I had to use Eric against Souths.
''Eric's got some work to do on his game, I won't deny that, but that's the case with most of our guys at the moment. There are only a few blokes here who can categorically say they are on top of their game. But we know what Eric gives us. He knows what he has to work on, and if he is able to train solidly he'll be back for our game against the Bulldogs [on Friday week].
''We're taking Eric to Townsville with us so that he can work with our training staff, because they'll all be up there.''
Grothe, Inu and lock Feleti Mateo are among Parramatta players still unsigned for next year, but prop Fuifui Moimoi yesterday confirmed he would be staying with the Eels until the end of 2012

Yup. Grothe and Benny were on the lhs. They were killing it. But they were sometimes shifted to the right and they also succeeded.

THerefore, opposition centres didn't realize which pair they were up against until they ran on the field.

I recall even during one game, they switched sides during the game and they still ran amok.

I think it was in 2005 and under Brian Smith.

I recall they played which ever side to take advantage of the opposite centre/wing pair or to defend against certain pairs like Gaz/Best.

A couple of things....

I really think Guru is carrying some sort of injury. He has looked ginger in warm ups etc. In saying that, I've got to say I'm absolutely estatic that he has still put his hand up to play. Guru of old would have just taken the easy option and pulled out of the matches.

He is a powerhouse and I wonder though if he can only train a minimal amount why DA wouldn't just cut him and give him the week off rather than naming him on the extended bench. I will be pretty p!ssed off if someone like Horo gets cut just because DA couldn't make a decision between Guru/Inu/Reddy. And if injury is the problem, why would you name him on the bench?

He could play if needed, so they have named him as travelling reserve. Ando said in the press that he wants Guru to go to NQLD because he needs to get fit (he's missed a lot of training) and that he'll be able to be worked on by the medical staff whilst up there (daily physio etc).

Why do people think their is a conspiracy??? The bloke hasn't trained and obviously he needs some fitness and atm we can afford to rest him with a very good replacement.

I reckon Anderson will be using INU like this throughout the year. Maybe Tahu later on will be due for a break.

having thought about it, it makes perfect sense given that Guru doesn't travel too well because of his back and the fact that it is a short turn around.

Maybe he has to name him in the side so that he CAN take him up to NQ? Maybe the policy is that only players named can travel???

I see no conspiracy at all, we need Grothe firing if we are to win the premiership! He is an integral part of our go forward coming out from our own end and also attacking the try line, if he is injured get him fixed up now rather than risk losing him later in the year when we WILL need him!

As PG said, the Grothe of old wouldn't have played for the last 4 weeks, DA has certainly got the best out of Grothe since he has been here!!

He is a 10x better defender than Guru. He missed 1 costly tackle last week but that's a one off. He doesn't rush up out of the line like Guru and leave a 3 man overlap.

No doubt Guru has been our best back this year but if we keep conceding tries down our right edge each week something has to change?

Luke Burt has been our best back this year.

Guru hasn't been far off. Both Burt and Guru have played way better (consistantly) than Tahu, Inu or Joel.

I thought some of Gus' comments were ridiculous last Sunday. He kept praising Tahu and Burt but put down Inu and Grothe. In fact most commentators blamed Grothe for Inu's mistakes. In the last few games, mainly the Manly, Cronulla, Canberra games, Tahu has made some terrible decisions in defence and easily conceded the most tries. But he gets the praise because of this one game.

And if I recall, I remember Grothe coming in and making a try saving tackle the next play to deny Wesser a try, when he had 3 on 1 or thereabouts. Also I say the rib injury is from the tackle against canberra when he stayed down, that or it was aggravated there.

That was one hell of a tackle. I think it may have been Hayne but I can't recall.

Poor Wesser - that was not one of this better games was it? He butchered that try completely.
