Good confidence builder. So much new talent on show. Moses Suli looking like a great addition already. They all looked keen.

The Ramsey or Sloan fullback question will sort itself out. IMO Ramsey looks a little more solid up the back but Sloan does like coming infield. He almost pulled off a couple of intercepts. Plus he has a kicking game, maybe he'll end up closer to the ruck.

Impressed with the level of defence late in the match. The depth here is looking very promising.
For mine, POTM Jaiyden Hunt.

P.S. "It's only a trial."

I like the attitude of Hook and the players that we don't play "trials", we play to win.
Hats off for not collectively shrugging the shoulders at 0-16 but getting stuck in and turning the game around. Lots of potential in the younger players like J Hunt, Mulheisen, Antrobus, Reuben etc and, amazingly ( and unpredictably ) the cool head and leadership of one J McGuire that helped turn things around.
Definite improvement there - as long as it doesn't dissipate by Round 8, like last year.

And Scumnulla lost too. Great day.

Decent signs all around tonight.

I'd put Michael Molo, Jayden Hunt Jack Gosiewski ahead of Faamausili on tonight's effort.

If Reuben puts in a good showing in the CS then perhaps it's the Rava/Reuben show come round 1?

Moga will make a solid option on the wing or as a back up centre. Way better than last years lack of depth.

I can't wait until George hits his straps and we see some tasty meat pie opportunities of the back of his bollocking runs close to the line.

mmm tasty peat pies!

Bring on next week...

Many have raised many good points in relation to players which is great.

I thought Ford looked much much better in all aspects of his game

I also thought our discipline especially in the ruck re 6 again and stupid penalties was excellent.

Hats off to Moose who really did lead by example.

Sloan is special

Negatives:

The right side 'D' was very suspect the whole game.

Discipline still needs to be honed in. Fuimaono & Moga have plenty of previous form (as do others in the squad who didn't play today). Make no bones about it - since Fui knocked Pap into space during Magic Round last year (and add in the BBQ gate drama for good measure) we have a target on our back from the officials, and this will be our undoing this year if we aren't careful.

It's only a trial - best not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Positives:

Lomax and Rava will tighten up the right side.

Sloan - he's undoubtedly our full back and a talent to watch for in the future.

Big George - impressive limited game time. We looked different structurally when he was carting it up the middle, and the Eels players couldnt get him on his back. Souths supporting mates have been telling me since we signed him that they rated him better than Sam before injuries set in. Once he gets some more miles in the legs he's going to be one of our best signings in years.

Jaiyden Hunt - we saw glimpses of his potential last year, and if he brings that kind of defensive starch he could nail down a spot in the 17.

Suli - he's trimmed down and will be a massive handful out on the left. Question will be - Cody or Moga as his wing partner ?

All the train and trial guys... admirable effort from each.

Charity Shield next week - our best chance to win one for a while one would hope.

First win of the season , buuut don’t forget “ it’s only a trial “ - what jerk said that ? 😳

Anyhow great to see the young-uns and newbies go through their paces . Gregoooory Alexander 2 bobs worth of the Dragons isn’t worth 2 pennies in my book . How that bloke could be Foxs rugby league expert has me beat ?

But back to the game itself , I was impressed with Suli , Moga and Sloane , along with Ramsey’s efforts , all in all a real confidence booster for season 2022 . And the young hooker impressed me also , a real busy bee always looking for runners .

But don’t forget - it was only a trial !
