Dugan , while he has been a douchebag in the past, made a valid point.
Most people on here, at one stage or another, have said exactly what he said today.
The media are f**kwits, particularly the News Limited journalists, who take every opportunity to run down the exact game that their very own careers depend on.
Instead of photographers staking out Mad Monday celebrations, why aren't they out there taking pics of players of, in this example, spending time with a young kid in the last days of his life.
Why? Because they are leaches of the highest order.
These people have no scruples and they disgust me.
News limited will use any means necessary to get a story you just have to look at the phone hacking saga in Great Britain, the despicable act of hacking s dead girls mobile phone her parents believing she was still alive f**king atrocious

To be fair to Bogan he hasn't acted up all that much throughout his career, at least compared to quite a few others. I assume he gets a lot of hate for the amount of times he gets up from a tackle clutching a body part - still haven't figured out if that's real or someone come of sad ploy for pity and attention.

That being said he's also a massive tosser and his tattoos are absolutely hideous to look at.

He had a tough childhood and it hasn't set him up well for success.

He has an opportunity to make a go of it now as he's a bit older and he's obviously doing some good work behind the scenes.

He (and so many other young footballers) need mentors and positive influences. The clubs have to do their part, but - what are player agents doing about this other than collecting their $%?

I feel really concerned for him,as I think Dugan needs to be carefully watched. I've seen ppl like this who are prone to self destruction if they are not properly monitored. When he retires from football,I hope he has the right resources and proper directional advice to make sure he doesn't go on the wayside.

To be fair I think there's a lot of tongue in cheek about the way most people talk about TheDugan:tm:

In general he doesn't seem like an awful bloke by any means. Just dumb. He came through at my club way back in the day (although I had absolutely nothing to do with him personally, I was injured and mostly done by then already) and the general consensus was he didn't exactly come from a great spot and he didn't exactly have the brains to rectify it, but he was a bit of a knob rather than a shit human. He looked after people when he made it. Kudos to him for helping the poor kid out

Todd Carney is a bit the same, actually. I'd suggest a lot of the blokes who the public sees as dickheads are, at a guess.

Media are scum, of the highest order.
Sensationalistic wankers.
I heard Bulldog Ritchie commenting on MG's show tonight about this. Puffed his chest out and basically inferred that the journos own the game and control the information flow...that players need to suck it up. What a merkin. Stop subscribing to their shit and they'll go away. There are more reputable sources on this site.

Dugan might be a tosser but what he's done off the field isn't really worth writing about. I take my hat off to him for doing what he can to make the life of a terminally ill kid better. It's better than what a lot of us on here can do so hats off to him for that and I'm sure that poor family is appreciative of that as well. Good work Duges.
Pffft charity for kids?
What does that matter, remember that time he drank alcohol? Hang him up!

Ease up Josh you've got a big game coming up. Don't want to strain a tear duct.

But seriously good for him. He puts his body on the line every time he plays, unlike some players and hasn't really done too much wrong off the field.

Is this the first thread in LU history that has had every single poster pretty much in general agreement?

Pin this to the top of the front page. History is made...

Hard for the players, they do good charity stuff and if they seek media for it they’ll get called publicity seeking, if they don’t say anything about it then the good stuff never gets reported. Maybe the very well resourced nrl media Dept should be putting more good news stories about players out?

Exactly. You would think one of these clowns at Nrl Hq would source out feel good stories from clubs and put it on the official website to help combat the constant mud slinging players cop.

Pretty shit to see a bloke like that. Whether or not you like the club he plays for, his tats or how he plays he is a human and he's hurting a bit.

Last couple weeks we've had a very decent ref quit cause he's had enough, Ben Hunt voice his struggles and now a man almost in tears during an interview about footy.

Everyone, especially the DT, needs to lay off these blokes. We've unfortunately seen what the pressure can lead to with young up-and-comers, do we need the scalp of a star to realise how damaging this shit is? I can't see how its different to cyber-bullying.

It seems the more footballers clean up their act the more scrutiny they cop for very minor things. Go out and speak you're a target, lock yourself away you are too. They're on a hiding to nothing.
