Terrible Decision

Yes, cause none of them are Adrian Morley.

Like I said before Simpkins thought he was 100% it was blatant and had no intention of going to the video ref. If it was a Parramatta player of course I would be dirty one way or the other.

Personally I feel if Morley gets a 1 week suspension, he shouldnt have to serve it because he already missed half a game tonight

Kid....us Eels fans do know what it's like to have a player wrongfully sent off. Adam Peek, Round 26 2003 at Penrith Stadium, by Sean Hampstead for a "high, late challenge" on Craig Gower's ribcage....

does any1 remember sharks vs parra 2003 where we were beaten controversially

That was different, but I'll discuss that in the thread you revived, and not hijack this one....

I don't doubt it Bazal, and i have always believed the aim for refs is to get better, isn't that what the technology is for, to get it right? We all agree, it's just that the other Eels supporter wanted to stir a bit of pooh, and i stirred it back to him, but at the end of the day it's what it's all about.. No supporter, of ANY team in ANY sport, wants to be robbed by an official. All i asked, is that the official uses the technology available to him to make the CORRECT decision. You will never hear another peep out of me if that happens.

Very well said BBSF. A send off is in essence a one game ban. (or atleast half)

I agree that technology should be used, I was just making the comment that it HAS happened to an Eels player.

I mentioned it in a previous thread leading up to this game. Adrian Morley is still targeted by people on his previopus misdemeanours. Tonights send off was a f**ken disgrace. Never before have I been so annoyed at at shit like that we are not playing games on reputation.

In the context of the game I thought it was a fair send off (and considering who it was).

Morley has been asking for trouble for quite some time with his tackling style. He consistently hits high on the shoulders, and sneaks into the head area (has been penalised numerous times and suspended for it before).

The game had just gotten pretty fiery, then the Roosters do a big kick chase and Morley hits Utai high (it was high + deserved a penalty) - but because of the situation of the game, Simpkins takes control and sends off Morley (a player who is known for his high tackling style).

Personally I think that if it was anyone else, no send off - but because the game is getting tense, Simpkins impression was that a hot head (Morley) was trying to assert himself and cause trouble - so he's gooone! I don't have a problem with the decision - if Morley can't be bothered getting his tackles down then this was always bound to happen.

The most amazing thing is that the commentators said it was the first time Morley has been sent off in the NRL

I dont really care, the guys a thug, his arm went swinging all night then finally hit the target. Morely is a good player, but why does he always swing his arm. It's gonna cost his career.

Morley gets into difficulty when he's tackling short players. Nearly all of his previous high tackles in Australia have been on halfbacks. This time it was another shortie in Utai.

But this decision was farcical. It was not even a penalty, let alone a send off.

Why hasn't Robert Finch addressed this problem previously? Surely it's as simple as telling the refs to call time off, tale a deep breath and consult the video ref. Simpkins seems to have the shoot first ask questions later syndrome.

I saw the tackle and thought the call was a bit harsh. I didn't know Simpkins was the referee....I wish it was Clarke instead so they could actually find an excuse to drop the bastard to Reserve grade next week.

Well said old man. There were arms flying, a bit of biffo and things were getting fiery. Morley made a lazy coat-hanger to Utai, and Simpkins was not going to stand there and let the game get out of his control. He sent him off, and the game settled back down and the Roosters won. If you just look at it from the "controlling the game" point of view, send off is ok, but it was a soft tackle. he wouldn't of got 1 week at the judiciary. Minichello's effort to decapitate Jason Smith last week was worse.

Be fair, it was a penalty and should have been put on report, but it sure as hell wasn't anything worse.

I dont think Morley should have been sent off.
I do admire Simpkins for having the ticker to actually send someone though.
Too many times there are blokes put on report where they should have been given there marching orders.
Ricky Stuart spoke too much. He shouldn't have said Morley hit the bloke high. I dont think he really did. And Rick who gives a damn if its Friday Night or Sunday Afternoon. The rule should be the same across the board.
I dont think we can have things both ways.
Morley to get off.
Stuart to cop $10,000.
Simpkins-He'll still be in firsts next week.

One other thing how could you line up that Anasta's foot was in front of the kicker?
Benefit of the doubt should have made that a try.

I agree with most of what you say Foz - but I think the send off was warranted considering the game was probably about to blow right up. If it's not Morley, no send off, on report and penalty - but because he refuses to change his tackling style then he will become the pin-up boy for drawing referees attention.

Morley has had offences which should have been send-off's not followed through before...

As for Anasta - I thought he probably was in front of the kicker - but it's a tough call.

But this raises another question - why can't video refs rule on forward passes?? If they can rule on whether or not a player is offside, then they can rule on whether a pass went forward from the point it was thrown! It's exactly the same decision "player A is here and throws the ball, player B catches it here - which is in front of where player A threw it... forward pass"

(I believe that the rugby league forward pass rule is if the ball goes forward from the player who threw it, regardless of technical union considerations such as which way hands were pointing, floating etc).

No, the ball has to be thrown backwards, but as the laws of physics dictate it won't go backwards as the ball move forwards at the same rate the player was travelling. That has always been the case in League.
