Terrible Decision

Morley's reputation shouldn't justify a send off, but the fact that the Roosters train to go high should. They deliberately target the head and then when a tackle goes wrong they complain they are being picked on.

Wrong footed is no excuse when you train to go high, that is the worst degree of intent.

The actual contact may not have been that bad, although it was a swinging forearm to the head not just an arm that was "hung out", but the fact that there was intention to go high before they took the field means being "wrong footed" doesn't come into it as an excuse.

In the context of the game I thought it was a fair send off (and considering who it was).

Morley has been asking for trouble for quite some time with his tackling style. He consistently hits high on the shoulders, and sneaks into the head area (has been penalised numerous times and suspended for it before).

The game had just gotten pretty fiery, then the Roosters do a big kick chase and Morley hits Utai high (it was high + deserved a penalty) - but because of the situation of the game, Simpkins takes control and sends off Morley (a player who is known for his high tackling style).

Personally I think that if it was anyone else, no send off - but because the game is getting tense, Simpkins impression was that a hot head (Morley) was trying to assert himself and cause trouble - so he's gooone! I don't have a problem with the decision - if Morley can't be bothered getting his tackles down then this was always bound to happen.

The most amazing thing is that the commentators said it was the first time Morley has been sent off in the NRL

Thats what I thought old man, Morely kept going up in defence and nearly hitting one of the players before hand. Im pretty sure Simpkins gave him a warning about keeping them down, it was becoming dangerous.

The commentators were right about Morley (for once  ) being sent off for the first time in the NRL. He's been sent off before in ESL and also test matches. He has the record for the fastest send off in an international, Vs Australia, Wigan, 2003.

The refs need to be told that any offence involving what appears to be foul play must be reviewed by the video ref to determine if a send off is justified. No grey areas.
