Finish of the year in the ski cross at Sochi. Three skiers fall on the last jump and cross the finish line on their arses. f**k Chumpy and the snow boarders. The ski cross is where it's at.

What exactly is happening?

If it is simply that the HC have paid for the connection (i.e. the cabling / installation cost) to Foxtel, there's no big deal, because they might not have much choice in the current environment.

If they're paying for the subscription that's pretty weird.

The resident is paying all the costs.

My point is if they have enough money for fox then why are they in public housing?

Dunno. Probably better than them spending it on bourbon and coke cans I guess. And some sink it into high performance Holdens or Fords.
Not sure how it works in NSW now, but it the ACT the authorities have a lot of trouble convincing well-off people to leave government owned houses/flats. They get into the system when they are not so well-off, and then just don't leave. We had a member of the legislative assembly (Green of course) on well over $100k, who had been previously been working on a similar salary at a Uni, living in a government owned house and she couldn't see the problem....even though there's a long waiting list of people who might actually need help.

It's a reflection of society these days. "What's in it for me?"

Pete, are you suggesting the current government is responsible for the decisions made by Ford, Holden, SPC, QANTAS and Electrolux?

If the ALP was planning to throw some money to these companies to help them survive, why dont they do the same for 100% of businesses in Australia. I'll have some please.

Agreed. It is not the job of Governments to prop up failing businesses. It is their job to establish a set of rules that gives a business every chance of prospering and then getting out of the way. If they do that and the business still fails then tough shit.

Just think..those bludgers at Ford, Holden, SPC, Qantas, Electrolux, and the Canberra Public Servants will soon be told their time is up....
Abbott will get them.....

I have no problem helping out decent hardworking people like this.
It's the bludgers I have a problem with.

I'm a simple man still learning about politics, but I agree with this. The onus should be on businesses to boost profits.

Yep. And 'businesses' include agricultural enterprises too.

Agricultural enterprises are a different kettle of fish IMO. For sure there are some farmers out there who should never get government assistance because they are just poor farmers/business owners. But on the other side of the coin, there are great operators that may struggle for a period of time because of conditions outside of there control (drought, hail, flood, etc). These are the guys that deserve help, but how do you differentiate one from the other? And would the wider population be happy importing the majority of their fresh produce?

I'm not against different provisions for industries because of differences in the 'business cycle'. Income averaging, for example, makes perfect sense. Flood relief is just necessary. The fact that we have significant droughts, however, is not a secret to anyone, and has to be factored into your decision to farm (or keep farming/grazing) land.

What I disagree with is encouraging persistence in farming marginal land where if the full costs were borne by the investor, they would decide it wasn't worth it. Where governments do help out in a cash sense, they should get a return (later) for that help.

Comes down to the old saying 'socialise the costs, and privatise the benefits'.

Green Day played @ Captain Cook Hotel near near the cricket ground last night.

Bugger. Chance of a lifetime missed.

Apparently they tweeted at 10:40pm that they would be on stage at 11:00pm. Full house in 20 mins.

I shouldn't be too selfish as I did get to see the Barking Spiders one night with about 100 others.

My brother once caught David Bowie do a show in a pub - was just sitting there having. Quiet beer when he popped up on stage. Pub went from
Four blokes to completely full in half an hour (no mobiles or internet back then)
