Tomkins crabs across field and uses his speed to run around people who try to break the line by going to tackle him. Keep a straight defensive line and the bloke has nothing. He will be figured out pretty quickly unless Elliott tries to use him differently and get something more from him because I haven't seen much for me to think he will be great

That's exactly what Hayne did in 09. Defensive lines figured that out pretty quickly.

You can't say Tomkins has 'nothing' by watching him in a couple of tests. Anyone who's seen him for Wigan in the last few years wouldn't say that.

Fui man of the match against Italy this morning. Terepo with a try.

Anyone who underestimates the England backline is a fool. They have the ability to beat anyone in this tournament, the side's problem is playing for 80 minutes. In 20 minute patches they have shown the best football of the tournament (first 20 v Aus, first half v Ireland, first 20 after halftime against Fiji), the rest of the time they look ordinary.

Unfortunately for England:

(1) World Cups aren't won in twenty minute spurts; and

(2) Australia has been farting around and have yet to pull their fingers out and play at 100%.

Well that was kinda my point.

Australia not playing at 100% isn't 'unfortunate' for England. They haven't looked like getting it right at all. England aren't at 100% either.

When Australia stop dicking around and turn it up, England won't get close to beating them.

And Australia not playing at 100% is unfortunate for England - they had a close contest the first time they met, and now think they can match Australia.

But when the Kangaroos decide to turn up and play, England are no chance.

Was proud of Fui, Peni & Santi this morning. They all did really well for their countries with Italy unfortunately bowing out.

Fui was a cannon ball and Peni was in the thick of it from when he came on, holding up their centre over the line in a try saving effort.

Santi is a workhorse and will do what Ben Smith used to do, without giving away penalties.

Only play half a season, most of the time hobbling?

Who says they will? And we don't know what Australia's best is, they haven't shown it yet.

England aren't stupid, they know Australia wasn't at their best when they played them and they know they will have to play a lot better to beat them.

Neither team is at their best and there's no guarantee either of them will be at their best if they play each other again.

England's stupidity (or lack thereof, if you like) is debatable - McNamara is their coach, after all.

I'm just saying that England showing the best form of the competition (or playing the best footy so far) means nothing. When things get serious and the Cup is on the line,
I doubt England can play with the big boys.

I disagree. I hear big George Burgess loves to BBQ alone.

Well played!

I like the way England play, and they have some genuinely good players in their squad.

But I think they're poorly-coached, and as much as I hate the Kangaroos sometimes for their interesting ploys and selection policies, they are just on another level to any other side when they are switched on.

I think any side with Inglis, Cronk, Thurston, Smith, Gallen, Jennings, Hayne, Morris, Slater, Scott, Bird and Cherry-Evans is tough to beat on a good day.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...e-after-nightclub-scuffle-20131111-2xcbm.html

Kangaroos player Billy Slater was held by police after a fight in Manchester.

Details are scarce, but Greater Manchester Police said they would release an official statement soon.

Fairfax understands he was placed in custody, and was arrested after being involved in a fight.

Billy Slater has been released after cooperating with police. Believed to be the victim in a nightclub scuffle in Manchester #NRL

I wonder why Mossop isn't been given a run against some of the lower sides? Could he have been involved in the night when hock was sacked?
