Unless you've had a LOT of training (i.e. more than the typical cop or soldier) then you just aim for the centre of seen mass.

Advanced marksmanship training is expensive, including for time lost when the shooter could be doing something else (other training or even actual work). Ammunition, range maintenance, wear and tear on the weapons and so on all cost money.

So you'll find that only CT cops and special operations soldiers will be aiming for specific body parts. Even then, in the heat of the moment when you've just been stabbed and your mate is being hacked up there is the instinct to just point your weapon and keep pulling the trigger until the target falls down. Firing a weapon at a human being is a life changing experience for most people, and the gravity of the situation probably isn't lost on any given shooter, regardless of how many tens of thousands of rounds he's fired at the range. This was probably the first time this cop had ever shot at anyone.

Thanks, makes sense.

I'm ok with it, don't committ any crimes and your chance of getting shot by the cops are pretty diminished!

Innocent I tell ya !

A Sydney lawyer representing six people caught up in the country's massive counter-terrorism operation last week says the Muslim community feels under siege.
Adam Houda described the pre-dawn raids that saw 15 people detained as over the top and accused authorities of treating Muslims as the enemy.http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-24/lawyer-adam-houda-says-muslim-australians-are/5764886

"They were raided in pretty intimidating circumstances. They had a lot of their items seized. No questions were asked in relation to any particular offences," he told AM.
"I can tell you that there's no connections at all between my clients and the man that was actually charged with a terrorism offence."
Afghan-born man Omarjan Azari has been charged conspiracy to prepare for a terrorist attack on behalf of Islamic State (IS).
Mr Houda said his clients do not even know the man allegedly involved in a plan to kill a randomly selected person on behalf of IS.
He said no charges had been laid against his clients and questioned the timing of the raids.
"They're somewhat confused – not only the people who were subject to the raids but also their families who were caught up in the raids," he said.
"The raids happen to fall on the day that our troops went to Iraq and also at a time where the Government is trying to pass through the Parliament some very draconian and controversial laws.

"So is that a coincidence? You tell me."
He said the Muslim community is feeling under siege.
"It's alienating them and that's not a good thing," he said.
"I've received, maybe, over 24 calls from different people who have been detained, arrested, interrogated at airports, just moments before they're about to depart on their flight.
"I'm finding that this a very dangerous trend that's occurring not only in Sydney, but also in Melbourne and Brisbane.
"[They are being quizzed about] why are you going to Lebanon and what are you doing in Lebanon and why are you going to Dubai.
"These people, these authorities, they're fully aware that these people were planning on travelling overseas. You could have gone to see them days before, rather than humiliate them and cause them a lot of distress."
He said he is considering a class action for clients who have been detained and interrogated at a number of Australian airports over the past month.
He also wants the New South Wales Police Commissioner to apologise to three men who were picked up by police at an NRL match in Sydney over the weekend.
"In a packed stadium, they were approached by police officers dressed up in riot squad gear and they pointed them out, asked them to come to them, they took them behind the stadium and started interrogating them as to why they were using their phones," he said.

So Peter Slipper gets community service for using $900 worth of cab-charge for personal use. After all the shenanigans and chest puffing, that's it ?

Was it all about the public interest or the balance of power in the House of Reps ? ;-)

So will Mal Brough be questioned by the police about photographing Slipper's diary ? Will Christopher Pyne now be hauled before the senate to explain his vague "no specific knowledge" comments and possibly lying to parliament ? Over Tony's dead body they will !

Meanwhile Pyne is in the paper yesterday claiming $30k for his Mrs tagging along on a UK trip staying at the freaking Dorchester or something.

Merkins the lot of them.

<PS If I was a polly I would rort the system like you would not believe.>

I seriously doubt these people are real Muslims. Islam doesn't preach beheading, killing and rape.

The only common thread in the terrorist activities seems to be their Afghani heritage

What's a real muslim?

Quran (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides

hmmm

Have a read of Leviticus (partic. the stuff on blasphemy), then judge Christians and Jews by the same standards.

Old Testament law doesn't apply to Christians. That should be obvious from the contradictions with the New Testament.

It does when it suits people (e.g. gay marriage shit).

So do people oppose gay marriage because of religion or do they choose their religious tenets based on what they oppose?

It's a conveniently circular argument against religion by people who probably consider themselves rational.

I'm not arguing against religion (whatever people believe that helps them treat others with respect I'm all for). I was responding to a post that chose to denigrate a specific religion by picking a quote from a religious text. I simply pointed out that you can play the same game with other religions if that is your standard of evidence.

While people have choice regarding their religious beliefs, they are obviously not independent of what they are exposed to when growing up (shit, some people think Aussie Rules is the greatest game on earth).

The whole point of the Christ coming was to form a new covenant between God and everyone here on Earth. As such, the OT is dead in the water.

Yeh, I know the routine (mother-in-law is an ordained minister). But, why bother printing it with the NT? And why bother with the 10 (or 54) Commandments? I like the NT, hard to disagree with it regardless of what else you believe in. My point is that people selectively choose which bits of the fire and brimstone stuff from the OT if it suits their particular argument, and run like stuck pigs if someone quotes a different part of the OT back at them.

I agree, Christians and Jews have done terrible shit in the name of religion too (mainly a long time ago). I was merely pointing out that these f**kwits are indeed real Muslims. And pointing out that Islam does in fact promote violent acts.
