the system needs to change. after that thriller, no way third place should be knocked out after that game, its a joke. im a warrior fan, but we deserve to be knocked out, the tigers, dont.

Good god man

See everybody points to "but they came 3rd" but how about the fact that 6th defeat 3rd, 7th defeated 2nd and 8th defeated 1st for it to happen in the first place? They can't all progress to the second week. The system also places greater importance on winning your first match rather than losing and progressing because teams lower than you lost.

It isn't perfect but it is better than just about every alternative.

Our finals system in my opinion is fair and rewards consistency. Something the Eels definately couldn't find this year. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best and not rely on other team's performances to keep you in the race. Top 4 get the advantage of a home final and top 2 get a 2nd bite of the cherry plus financial incentives. If the Tigers drop out this week then so be it (although my wife and daughter will be devistated). Every team in the 8 deserve to be there based on the ammount of points they scored regardless of whether they scored them at the start or end of season. Dragons werethe best side last season but seriously if you lose 2 finals games you don't deserve to be premiers. The same could well happen to the Dragons or Panthers this year. Keep winning games and control your own fate.

Being a Raiders supporter I'm not complaining but I believe that when we play either the dragons or the tigers next week, it should probably be on their home turf.

Like it was stated before... you don't play 26 rounds for nothing. 1st to 4th should get the home games and 5-8 should do it the hard way, no matter what the results are from the 1st week of finals.

Not worried about it.

McIntyre system rewards 1st and 2nd more than what the AFL is using now, provides the easiest possible route to the preliminary final. After finishing at the top they deserve every advantage they can get.

To all the McIntyre apologists saying it's all about winning, the Tigers deserve to be bundled out after one loss etc,

Tell that to Melboune 1999, belted in week 1 eventual premiers

and

North Queensland 2005 (5th) beaten 50-6 in week 1, grand finalists.

That's just off the top of my head I'm sure there are other examples.

Meanwhile in 2010 the possibility that equal 2nd ( 3rd on f/a) and 2 points from 1st team, beaten in Golden Point, could be eliminated after 1 loss.

Yep fantastically fair finals system!

NOT!

They finished two wins ahead of Canberra, its not like they were streets ahead of the lower teams in the 8.

The biggest mark against the McIntyre system is that every team should know exactly what's at stake when they go into a finals game. What were the Tigers and Roosters playing for last night? Neither team knew really.

Furthermore, the prospect that 4th and 6th might both get a week off and go straight through to grand final qualifiers is absurd.

Actually, the more I think about it the stupider it seems. In 2005 the Cowboys came 5th, lost 50-6 in round one of the semis, and ended up competing in the grand final because they were lucky enough that other games went their way. If Manly were to get up this arvo, then the Tigers would be eliminated after coming third on f/a and losing an epic thriller in round one. Those results are just too wildly divergent to be defensible. League needs to revert to a 1-4/5-8 system where every team, at every stage of the finals, knows exactly what they're playing for.

Yeah because 3rd deserves to be kicked out after a golden point loss....and the Roosters should have a week off too...

Every team bar 1 and 2 know that you need to win to guarantee survival, what more do you need to play for?

All the AFL trolls wanting 1 to 4 to play meaningless games that that a loser gets another bite at the cherry? If a team is down say 20 points at the half, you just put the cue in the rack and wait for next week.

There isn't a huge difference besides the fact that they play top four sides. They still can't be knocked out and they still get a home final. They still go through to the grand final qualifier if they win.

The AFL system is more rewarding to the top four. The losing top four side hosts the winning bottom four sides.

Manly won't win anyway so it won''t happen.

Mind you, the AFL system is far superior - the top 4 teams almost always play the semis, which is the way it should be.

Well only two bottom four sides can POSSIBLY advance beyond the first week. In our system the entire bottom four can advance knocking out 3 and 4 giving 7 and 8 home games against the 1st and 2nd.

EDIT

It comes down to what a person wants from a final series. To reward form or to reward winning.

If Manly wins the McIntyre will again be shown up for the farce it is but maybe this will be the final straw.

How can it possibly be fair that the team that finished equal 2nd, 3rd due to for and against, be eliminated after just one loss?

Then, the chooks (SIXTH) get promoted to a week off and 1 win from the Gf.

What an absolute joke the McIntyre system is.

Its taken you 11 years to voice your complaint.

Short memory or is it only that this highly unlikely scenario may effect your club. Manly wont win so stop your petlant whingeing.
