It's 2016 and we still don't have a simple line marking tool like NFL's 1st & Ten.

This.. the morons on fox were talking after the game about how you cant really tell because of the camera angle... well its simple, super impose a line across the field from the point of the ball closets to the opposition try line. if both players feet are behind the ball then there is no conjecture.

In this case both feet were well behind the ball. it doesn't get any more black and white then that irrespective of what the on field ref sent it up as.. disgraceful decision

How the Bunker could not see the Roosters were on side from that kick is beyond me.

Surely there is technology we can use to get a side on shot of the play like in Soccer and get the correct decision.

The technology needed to put lines on the field is the same that they currently use to put ads on the field.. so they could do it.

and you know this how?

and it would be nothing like that seeing the virtual advertising is something placed on the actual camera which is why not all angles have it

Tupou was five metres offside and followed the play and was in a position to catch the last pass. He was offside, clear No Try and penalty.
This.
There's been heaps of tries disallowed over the years because an offside player was within 10m of where the ball landed or whatever. Even when they have tried to get out of the 10m zone and have no effect whatsoever, penalty every time.
The only thing controversial here is that the commentators and most fans seem to think Tupou was invisible

Why would it be any different, it's a simple overlay. The advertising manages to stay in a fixed position, doesn't it?

It's obviously not going to be used on roaming cameras, but fixed wide angle views are clearly suitable for using it.

which is why what you want isn't similar as the line would have to move all over the field and be available on all camera angles

It's exactly the same.

Video is paused, line is inserted using chroma key overlay.

Fixed wide angle cameras are going to be the best angles for making these decisions and they can be easily modified to use the technology. The main camera already is.

Why is this so hard for you to understand?

He was run onside by the kicker... you know, the guy who scored the try.

To run the offside player onside, he would need to get in front of the offside player before the offside player gets involved or makes himself available to be involved. Mitchell only gets in front of Tupou after catching the pass, meaning he didn't run him onside.

And yet the video I just showed you shows that the technology was developed specifically for shit like this and was then adapted for advertising.

Ok guy, it's completely different.
