The Bunker

I think its probably a textbook reportable tackle imo. Yeah it was only lazy but it was obvious he was going to be charged with it. He certainly didnt miss. Did anyone seriously think Thompson wouldnt be charged for it ?

Edit

And yeah austin should have been blood binned which makes me wonder how dark was it out there

If a penalty was blown in the game, there would be minimal post match focus and he would have probably escaped suspension.... probably would have preferred the penalty was blown.

Thats not fair on the dragons players who have to tackle him. Im sure austin is fine and all but the rule is for everyone's safety

That said your theory is the exact thing an nrl ref would do

So you're saying that because the Raiders were playing crap they didn't deserve a penalty?

Thompson getting done by the MRC doesn't help the team at all.

No, I'm saying the penalty or no penalty
It's not a game changing play and I'm sick of seeing our fans blame the officials for losses over meaningless shit like this

I'm not sure why you're even bringing this up. Can't the shortcomings of the bunker be pointed out without having to fend off suggestions that it could have clearly reversed the result of the match? You only need to look at possession and the stupid errors to see why the Raiders lost.

Because I've been on LU long enough to know its a time saver to place that caveat in there so I don't have to deal with the morons and their "ohh have a sook! You act like it cost you the game!" Posts

And also there actually is people on another site who believe this decision cost us the game. So it's always nice to distance myself from those loons

I try not to blame the refs for losses. Even at awful times like the missed wall against the panthers. I know its bad over at the gh with fans crying about the refs.

Still its annoying when stuff like this is missed. I thought klein was bad but he was trying to officiate in the dark. Its a tough gig in perfect light.

I just personally disagree with the bunker on the austin tackle. Its the type of lazy tackle they love to put a charge on. Especially when its a player with a rep doing the tackling. Not that it was a game changer

Yeah ideally you don't want them blowing calls like the Blake Austin one, and bunker call on the wall against Penrith was unacceptable in terms of an official simply not knowing the rules

But I watch enough footy to know this stuff is plaguing all sides pretty equally. As bileduct said, it's an absolute lottery week to week. The standard of officiating in the NRL is absolutely woeful and has been for years

I cannot blame the Raiders fans for being more than upset in respect of this non decision.

I can understand the on field officials 'missing' it so to speak but it was there for all to see on reply and should have been dealt with accordingly. A penalty and offending player on report.

What's the go with the "mobile" bunker in the Warriors / Raiders game, from New Plymouth (wherever that is).

I thought no matter where it was played, it's the same people in the same place making the call.

Dont they have internet there?

Nah no internet there. It's like a third world country in that part of NZ.

The bunker went to a new level today.

Rewarding Josh Morris for a blatant blocking play by overturning the Roosters try.

Just a next level display of awfulness. The only people in Australia who thought that was no try and a Dogs penalty were the ones in the bunker.

But you know the drill, "we got the call right, move along nothing to see here. I'm Tony Archer, a genius answerable to no-one".

The problem is that the TRY/NOTRY call from the refs each time... Segayro clearly scored but yet no try was tipped and then not given

Anyone with a basic understanding of footy could see that Morris changed his line to impede Ferguson. Staggering that they could get that one wrong. I'm not sure I've seen a worse decision.

Between gutless refs lacking confidence to make on field decisions and the bunker still getting basic obvious decisions wrong despite all the technology at their disposal, the whole thing is s complete shambles.

Yeah that was staggering.

Morris's eyes were solely on Ferguson.

The bunker is the worst thing to happen to Rugby Leanne ever

no the video ref is and the increasing reliance on the video ref to make a decision. The bunker is just the latest response to the problems the introduction of the video ref has caused. Watch games form the mid 90's. So much more enjoyable.

In the TV deal they should have put a clause in that stated that no commentator was allowed to give an opinion on a ref decision and that the TV director wasnt to show 64 replies of every ref decision point. Then we wouldnt need the video ref as the mistakes that will always happen when a human is involved wont be obvious and jumped on so much.

KFC would need to find some new marketing ploy though.

Perhaps KFC could sponsor the player staying down to earn a penalty replays. They'd get just as much exposure.

and yet everbody hated benefit of the doubt. So which is it when the video replay isnt 100% conclusive? Flip a coin?

Absolutely spot on. That was just awful. Archer will defend it to the hilt.

On a different note, the bunker has come up with an answer to the TRY / NO TRY referee thing.

If the Roosters are attacking, ignore what the referee said and say "NO TRY". If the Roosters are defending, ignore what the referee said and say "TRY"

It takes all the guesswork and anger out of the situation because everyone knows the outcome before they even go upstairs. Makes it nice and simple and everyone's happy.

Although, if your team aren't the Roosters, this might not be a solution that suits your team.

Don't blame the technology, Tony Archer is the problem as is the NRL senior management.

A bunker review system is all that is needed. Trial it for Origin with a bunker in Sydney and a review bunker in Brisbane. They can alternate roles based on home/away.
