The present issue is not Chad's fault. He hasn't caused the cap fine, f**ked the cap with long inflated contracts for certain crocks. He is spoken of as having a good professional attitude off the field, doing all the club rep things well.
However, on the field he is largely ineffectual. His primary function is to get the team around the park. He does this ok. His kicking game on anything longer than a 10 metre grubber is poor. He has no running game. Can't ball play. Defends OK. His game has deteriorated from the first half of 2016 when he was very good.
A game manager has to excel at that skill set if he doesn't have a running or passing threat or a top kicking game.
Trindall has more attacking tools, decent show and go, good natural ball player, big boot for clearing kicks and bombs. At this point his game management is not where it needs to be. He needs time to develop that.
The club needs to figure its spine for next year. IMO Chad's future depends on signing a quality fullback. Its hard to go with three inexperienced spine players - Kennedy, Trindall and Brailey (with Johnson). Morris would feel more confident with 2 experienced players and 2 up and comers. If Moylan was fit then he could play Trindall with more confidence but he isn't and likely never will be.
Robinson went with FJ because he knew the other three spine were elite.
Chad will keep getting picked next year as provides stability. This will continue until we have a fullback who is a strong NRL player. Kennedy might get there but I doubt he has the range of tools to make it. Silky hands, yes. Kick returns, defence, no.
