The Chad Issue

The present issue is not Chad's fault. He hasn't caused the cap fine, f**ked the cap with long inflated contracts for certain crocks. He is spoken of as having a good professional attitude off the field, doing all the club rep things well.

However, on the field he is largely ineffectual. His primary function is to get the team around the park. He does this ok. His kicking game on anything longer than a 10 metre grubber is poor. He has no running game. Can't ball play. Defends OK. His game has deteriorated from the first half of 2016 when he was very good.

A game manager has to excel at that skill set if he doesn't have a running or passing threat or a top kicking game.

Trindall has more attacking tools, decent show and go, good natural ball player, big boot for clearing kicks and bombs. At this point his game management is not where it needs to be. He needs time to develop that.

The club needs to figure its spine for next year. IMO Chad's future depends on signing a quality fullback. Its hard to go with three inexperienced spine players - Kennedy, Trindall and Brailey (with Johnson). Morris would feel more confident with 2 experienced players and 2 up and comers. If Moylan was fit then he could play Trindall with more confidence but he isn't and likely never will be.

Robinson went with FJ because he knew the other three spine were elite.

Chad will keep getting picked next year as provides stability. This will continue until we have a fullback who is a strong NRL player. Kennedy might get there but I doubt he has the range of tools to make it. Silky hands, yes. Kick returns, defence, no.

I have made this point before that in the Spine when we won in 2016, Chad was the 4th ranked player at any time Barba/Maloney/Ennis were all 1-2-3, and big margin to CT.

When CT has been asked to step up, when we have less experienced players in the spine he is unable, put CT at Roosters he will look ok because he would be no 4 behind Teddy/Keary/Friend.
If he was at Broncs at moment he would be a disaster there

When catching the ball in the in goal area don’t you have to have both feet in the in goal area for it to be called a catch in the in goal area?

No.

same as for a kickoff, sideline, goal line or dead ball line.

Both feet must be planted when the catch is made.

Only having one foot out is enough.

Inversely you cannot jump for a catch with one foot out. That is considered from outside the field of play

Swap with the Broncs for Milford, they can kick in the difference. Spend all Off season as fullback and we go again. Our halves remain moylan, sj, trindall and tracey.

All the threads are blending into one so have no idea which one is grammar correction thread, salary cap thread or Townsend bashin thread but can we focus on the REAL Chad issue at hand???

How mental is this forum gonna get when Townsend sits out three weeks and walks straight back into the #7 for a losing finals performance?

I for one cannot wait

The footy gods smiled on us when chad went rogue.
Could it last longer than 3 weeks?

Has anyone filled the hole where Ponga landed?

He should watch what is coming. Not looking is never a good plan.

Would be bad for blokes knees,

Pretty much agree.
Just one out from left field . Could we get Xerri back after the ban maybe go on the front foot to partnering a rehab program with him? He is still young and could be part of the good times ahead. And a good news story for us.
Yes we need a gun FB, but cannot be an old timer. It will not fit the ‘young band of brothers’ theme we have going and will serve us well in the future. It would be great to find a player from the Shire to develop.
Chad must not play, make him assistant or something. He slows the play.Times up now.
We must move on from Moylan.
We must celebrate Fifita and his effort but say farewell.Times up now.
6 and 7 must be SJ, Trindall and Tracy. I see a lot of good things in Tracy for our club.
Wado still has much to give but somethings wrong in the background behind football. Put Tracy in as captain, and no more dumb challenges. Give Williams more time at lock.
Morris has worked on developing the team of the future. One or two player changes will turn this side into grand final contenders.
