Really enjoyed Shazam. DC finally didn’t oversaturate the screen with CGI and got the mix of comedy and action right.

I've basically stopped watching DC movies because of how bad the early movies in their universe was and I only saw Shazam because of how good the word of mouth was - whereas I still watch every Marvel movie, either in the cinemas or soon after they hit streaming platforms. As a result I'm a bit lost on where this is situated in the DC canon as I understand they've changed what is and isn't in their shared universe a bit recently - can someone who follows it explain what the state of the DC universe is?

I honestly think it’s Zach Snyder’s vision...

if you look WW, Aquaman & Shazam... those are 3 REALLY good comic book films... they all stand up to anything in the MCU.

I know the dude has suffered a lot in the last year or so but IMO they gotta move the f**k as far away as possible from Snyder and what he was doing...

IMO(and i could be wrong) the tone of it carried over to Suicide Squad... and didn’t help that film either.

I’m interested to see what James Gunn does with Suicide Squad 2 and Patty Jenkins follow up to WW.

Interestingly from what I’ve seen of Endgame... i thought Capt Marvel looked different to what she looked like in her solo movie...

She looks a lot smaller...

But I saw in an interview that she did this film before she did her own film... and i saw the PR that she put on a fair bit of muscle for CM... but I didn’t think too much of it TBH...

But seeing the endgame clip she looks ALOT smaller than she did in CM... it could be that she’s not wearing the Kree battle suit... but she put some serious muscle on.

Also SS and JL suffered because of studio interference - which is why they're easily the worse moves in DCEU

I haven’t seen Shazam yet but Aquaman was rubbish and Wonder Woman was okay at best.

DC hasn’t produced anything near the quality of the best of the MCU - Iron Man, Winter Soldier and Civil War, but the majority of MCU movies aren’t great. Most are run of the mill stories that all follow the same formula and quite a few are pretty shit themselves.

Wonder Woman is on the level of a Thor or Ant Man, which means everyone lauded it for not being complete shit like previous DCEU films.

I’m actually looking forward to Shazam though, even though I can’t get used to that name.

I wholeheartedly disagree...

It’s your opinion which is fine...

But IMO... Aquaman was f**king awesome! Over the top bonkers awesome!

Was it perfect??? Nope... not even close.,. But for what it was... it was great.

All the critics that fall into my wheelhouse came up with the same idea...

I can’t remember what WW, Aquaman and Shazam have rated on Rotten Tomatoes but I’m assuming it’s right in the thick of where MCU films hover...

Which was my original point....

I really enjoyed Batman vs Superman the uncut version, Also WB should have allowed Snyder to finish off his version of Justice League...

Funny enough, all this criticism of Snyder, he had a fair bit of input in WW and Aquaman and he'll have involvement in WW2.

For all his faults, he's got the positives too. But it's not cool to compliment him for anything.

Cue Frederick with some backhanded DC bagging for no reason.

Hey, my issue isn't with DC, it's with them hanging their hats on Snyder being the man to get them to the same heights as Marvel's MCU.

Snyder is second only to Michael Bay for worst current film maker (in my opinion anyway).

I don't want all the DC movies to mirror the Marvel ones - I'm happy for them to stay down the darker, grittier path as some of their biggest characters are more conducive to that style (batman and joker esp). They just need to get a better film maker to be their shared universe architect, and to not be so concerned with rushing things to play catch up, but instead tread their own path

The main problem with the DC films being almost always inferior to the Marvel films is mainly due to the source material.

i’m looking forward to this new joker movie. Phoenix’s laugh
in the club gave me goosebumps.

There looks to be a bit of a ‘Bad Boy Bubby’ vibe to it as well......... not that there’s anything wrong with that.....

Well no you said they stand up to anything in the MCU which they don’t. But yes they are on the same level of most MCU films as most MCU films are average and many are quite bad.

Except that on all platforms other than cinema, DC out performs Marvel.
That’s not entirely true there was a little Movie that come out in the in the late 70s called Superman the Movie and it’s sequel Superman 2 those 2 movies set the agenda of comic book movies yet to come cause in 1989 a little known director known as Tim Burton released Batman a box office smash still considered one of the best comic book movie...DC where and still are a big player in comic book cinema what movie from Marvel in the 70s and 80s can you remember????
