I agree completely - he was excellent, and looked the part.

Well yeah, apart from the whole black thing.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if you're going to nitpick against D'onofrio for not being big enough, then you at least have to acknowledge that Duncan wasn't a perfect representation compared to the comic books either.

A couple of reasons that come to mind:
1. Gotham is on one of the regular networks in the states, therefore is restricted in the content in terms of violence, language etc. Anything halfway decent these days is on Netflix or HBO.
2. Shows like Gotham and The Flash are episodic in nature. Each episode introduces a new bad guy, the hero fights the bad guy, and the bad guy is behind bars or dead at the end of the episode. Next episode, new bad guy, rinse and repeat, which pretty much makes them Law and Order/NCIS with superpowers. They don't take the time needed the flesh out these characters that have decades of history behind them. Daredevil built and built and built right to the conclusion at the end of the series, in the process completely exploring each of the characters and tapping into their rich comic book history.
3. Marvel > DC

Point 1. is very valid and the main driver. The networks they are on means the shows are much more restictive in the graphic nature of what they can present on screen. Agents of SHIELD suffers the same restrictions and can come off a bit campy too where as Constantine is much freer

Point 2. however is pretty wide of the mark. I cant speak too much on Gotham because i gave up on it early but The Flash and Arrow both have long running storylines that span seasons and sometimes beyond. The Flash has the Reverse Flash and Arrow had Deathstroke and now Ras Al Ghul as long running antagonists that are tapping into rich comic book lore.

Point 3. is you just being a dick ;-)

I was pretty much referring to Gotham where each episode featured a brand new baddie who was behind bars by the end of the episode. Granted though I also gave up on it pretty early too

And I haven't seen too much of the flash, but to me it seemed to be going down the same path. It is leagues better than Gotham though from what I have seen.

Arrow is another I haven't invested much time into either, but keep meaning to

True.

And if I recall correctly, Duncan was heavily criticised in that role for that very reason.

I am confident D'Onofrio did an impeccable job, but I was surprised to see him cast in that role.

I don't remember Duncan being criticised all that much because he was black.
But I may have just not payed attention to stuff like that back in those days.

I mean considering all the shit that Michael B. Jordan is copping for playing a black Human Torch, it wouldn't surprise me.

Fanboys were upset because Kingpin isn't black - why is a black actor playing him?

Same sort of people who sooked about Will Smith playing Jim West

I must be the only person here who thought MCD sucked as the Kingpin

Sure he had the size but his portrayal lacked the intelligence and the conflicted nature of the Kingpin character

I've actually only seen half the movie because the dvd I hired out was scratched to shit and froze halfway through. Never bothered to see the end because the first half was so rubbish

I watched the director's cut a little while back.
It's definitely an improvement on the theatrical version, but still not that great a movie.

For all the flack Affleck gets for playing Daredevil, he was not the reason that movie sucked (same with Ryan Reynolds as GL).

I really like the tone of the movie, having humanity questioning the role of Superman with the question of absolute power. I like that angle, plus Batfleck's voice is spot on "Tell me, do you bleed? You will" Obviously not Afleck's own voice.

But then you also hear Jesse Eisenberg's voice and he just sounds like a high school kid. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see him as Lex
