Embargo lifts at 7am (I think). I've read three reviews that broke embargo early (and weren't heavy on spoilers), and all three gave it 5/5, calling it the best marvel movie yet and the airport scene the greatest in any comic book movie ever.

Saaaaaa excited

You mean to tell me that the Superhero v Superhero movie that has been built up to in numerous movies is better than the one that just chucked them altogether after one and called it a day? I'm shocked.

finally saw Batman vs Superman and I enjoyed it.

I was able to avoid all spoilers but got the general feel that people hated it beforehand so it might have helped having low expectations. on top of that my expectations were lowered further because good Superman movies are really hard to do(immortal hero beats bad guys, bad guy gets green rock, hero beats bad guy even with green rock). Punisher/Batman was a nice difference to the standard Batman. I'm looking forward to Wonder Women movie. IMO they shouldn't have shown the other JL guys and just leave it with the symbols.

solid 6/10 compared to the 2/10 that I thought it might be.

Yeah, I actually really enjoyed it too, and would probably give it a 7/10 on the comic book scale; not brilliant, but certainly very entertaining.

Snyder clearly needs to get a bit better with his editing skills and decisions about the direction of the script clearly needed to be made when it was still 400 pages long (which led to the original cut being 4 hours apparently), but on the whole I still thought it was a plenty of fun.

That said, I also watched The Dark Knight again the other night, and I gotta say that it really did make me see how shallow these movies have become since Nolan was involved. The Marvel movies, whilst great popcorn fodder, are nothing close to as gripping as what Nolan did.

Didn't know he was in HBH. I only knew him from the godawful first season of Underbelly.

You do realise that For Man of Steel, Christopher Nolan co-wrote the story with David Goyer as well as being one of its 4 Producers, whilst for Batman v Superman he was an Executive Producer. As such you can't say he was un-involved.

Keep reading about how powerful Odin is.

Is he still in Odin Sleep?

Is Loki impersonating him? Where is he?

Is he going to get involved in Infinity War?

The script for Man of Steel was rewritten a couple of times. Combined with Zach Snyder's miserable attention to detail for a plot, it was always going to be a bit of a rabble.

Nolan can only do so much. The opening to Dawn of Justice (with Bruce's parents) and the first scene where Batman can be seen has Nolan all over it.

I worry about Warner Bros. They seem more interested in making money than making good stories. They seem scarred from losses in the industry.

nolans input to bvs was very limited.

Seems that way. I liked the depth of where they were going (Superman not being trusted by half the world, portraying him as a god like figure, Batman being brutal, the deeper themes and tones) seems to have Nolan all over it, which I enjoyed. It just wasn't executed as well as they could have. Snyder must take some accountability there.

Honestly, Snyder should just stick to doing the visual shots. Some of the scenes he created were just outstanding. That's where his value lies.

Yeah I didn't like that. I know they had the voice over say "I'm my dream..." But it was too late, I'd already been drawn out of the movie. That vo should mention the dream earlier.

This was always going to be the case. Warner Bros/DC being reactive to Marvels success and trying to do too much, too soon, ending up offending and alienating all but the hardest of hardcore DC fans.

Speaking of, where's runatme and TS Quint? Wouldn't mind getting their opinions on this abomination of a movie

I'm here mate.
Took me a while to get to see the movie.
As for my opinion of it......

It's not hard to say that it was a bit of a disappointment. Having said that, I still liked it. I had a great time while I was watching it. The disappointment would have to do more with the fact that it was one of my most anticipated movies ever, but the fact remains that they could have done a lot better with it.

Other people have said it in this thread - it is a movie where every scene works on its own, but put together it is a bit muddled. It could have done with another editor, I think. There are really interesting themes going on in this movie, but there just may be too many of them. The senate hearings with the Holly Hunter character, and the Scoot McNairy character would have been perfect in a Man of Steel sequel. That's a movie just on its own.

Then there is the Batman stuff. I loved Affleck as Batman. Apart from him not giving a shit about killing people (which I don't mind), he was the Batman from the comics - ruthless, revenge-driven, criminals are scared shitless of him.
His reasons for wanting to destroy Superman are fine...the way he changed his mind was poorly handled though.

Wonder Woman was fine, though didn't have enough screen time to make too much of a difference to my overall opinion on the actress. The other JL characters were shoehorned in a bit awkwardly. I did like the first sighting of Flash (the Crisis-like part) because I know that shit from the comics, but I understand why someone who isn't well versed in comic lore would have no idea what the f**k it was. I saw it with my girlfriend (who hated it), my Mum (who loved it) and my Dad (who liked it but thought it was just way too long) and they were all so confused by that scene.

Too many dream sequences. Drop them all. None are needed. Especially the 'Desert Batman' sequence. Looked cool, directed fine...but just completely unnecessary.

I was fine with Doomsday. Don't care if he doesn't look exactly like in the comics.
I was ok with Lex through the beginning of the movie...but around the halfway point he started to grate on me a bit. His little bit right at the end behind bars was laughably stupid (where he starts singing music to Batman). Felt like he was trying to be a low-rent Joker.

So much to talk about with this movie, but I really want to check it out a second time to see how/if my opinions change.
Overall I still really did enjoy it.

Can't wait for Civil War now.

I hated Doomsday.

I could get past that he looked like a cheap LOTR troll knock-off - but his creation and scale were woeful imo.

I was saaaaaaahhhh excited to see Doomsday on the big screen, and they messed up imo.

Really looking forward to this. Early word is Thor will finally be done justice (T1 was good though) and they might even set up world war hulk, and if Cate Blanchet is Hela Thanos will be a big part.

and in other news....

If you onto the deep web you can find a negative review of Civil war, and even then he says he likes it but the website could use the traffic.

Only 7 days to go.

Should have been his own movie, it was a rough shoo-in every bit as bad as Venom

Lex's motivations for creating him were f*cked too. He engineered the Batman death match, what if Batman won (and he should have)? Doomsday would then rip the planet to shreds, the end. Nice move pal.

Wait more character setups? That actually worries me, my huge gripe with these Marvel movies is they waste too much time throwing new random characters at us instead of telling us an actual story.

Oddly enough Thor 2 did neither, horrible movie

Wont be the aim of the movie but the end result of hulk being sent off planet is that he comes back to earth slightly annoyed.

Certainly didn't hate it, or most of the marvel movies for that matter.

Sloppy and poorly written a lot of them, but they're usually entertaining and visually very well done.

Thor 2 was one of the few truly *bad* movies of the group, Loki was the only redeeming quality, man Hiddleston just kills that role
