And so, somewhat appropriately with a whimper, passes in to history perhaps the most boring group to ever be drawn at a major tournament. Just one of six games (Croatia-Germany) was not completely sh*t. Hallelujah and good riddance.

Now eyes turn to a tasty Portugal-Germany quarter-final match-up.

Germany have a lot of work to do.

Klose and Gomez look shot for confidence up front.

Podolski has been played on the left - but he totally neglects his defensive duties there exposing his fullback. If he stays on the left against Portugal, Germany will be torn apartt wide.

Mertesacker and Metzelder remain unconvincing in the centre of defence.

Lahm though, has been simply outstanding.

Germany will beat Portugal.

However, Gomez is clearly not up to this level. Klose should start up front with Podolski.

The Germans are playing crap but they know how to get a result. Portugal, like Spain, impress with pretty football when it matters little. At the first sign of a struggle, they'll bottle it.

Gomez IS up to this level, but made a poor start to the tournament and confidence is just completely shot now. Kuranyi meanwhile sits on the bench and Podolski plays wide.

Klose doesnt look happy or confident either. He was quite poor for Bayern in the second half of the season and has continued that.

But on the game this morning, very funny to see both coaches 'sent off' by the fourth official. They looked like best friends walking into the stand to a standing ovation....and Loew was greeted by Chancellor Merkel

It was also funny to see Loew high five everyone he was sitting around when Ballack scored....including Boris Becker!

Bah!

Portugal will tear 'em a new one. Germany are very fragile at the back and few teams will expose that more than Portugal . And ive never rated any of Germany's striking options.

And let's not forget they have Lehamnn in goal. (Although Ricardo ain't much better)

Portugal 3-1
