The Hay Thread

the population of Nambucca heads is about 7,000 and they struggle to get a senior cricket teams filled (only based in the town), senior league has struggled to field a full side in all 3 grades for the last few years and has no AFL team or hockey or union.
So Hay is doing very well IMO.

Not one player backs up. None.
You will find that the Hay Club has been a huge contributer to the Breast Cancer and Call to Arms - and a finalist in 2009 (one of three) in the Telstra Club of the Year - over ALL of Australia..Not just CRL.

Worthy causes, but it doesn't answer my question. If you're so concerned about the CRL and it's future, what is the "mighty" Hay club doing for clubs in the area? Apart from jumping from a sinking ship and leaving them to drown, and sacrificing them at the altar of an exhibition game for your own gain...

Yes, they are. Which is the point...other clubs in Southern NSW are struggling to stay afloat, and Hay keeps the spoils to itself.

you know what, i'd almost support the idea if they took the guest players to an away match which mean that they could effectively share the spoils...but I wouldn't imagine that'd want to do that..

That's a good idea, take the game to other towns, spread the money around...

seriously - if they are gonna put in the effort to organise players and all then they deserve the money from it ... I don't know how hard it would be for other clubs to show that sort of initiative too - I imagine it might be a question of "who you know"

but i still think its whacked that you can get a couple of ring-ins for a one off game that is for competition points

easier said than done..do they have the same connections as Hay has? do they get invited to origins and other NRL games and get pampered at corporate boxes??

maybe Hay should continue their annual event but also assist other towns to do the same...

easier said than done.

yeah, but there's no winding up of Pete is everyone speaks commonsense like that ;-)

do you need contacts to come up with innovative ideas and show some initiative?

Sure, the contacts might help depending on what you want to do, but at the end of the day, it is Hay showing the intiative and getting stuff done so it's Hay that should benefit.

I know if the Eels came up with a great marketing idea that brought in some great dollars I'd be pretty pissed if they were told toshare it around.....

well you requested to keep the "snoopy collins" sledge out of it so I merely suggest you do the same about Terry Quinn..

so Collins did wonderful things for YOUR club but I haven't heard how he's assisted other clubs, but as long as YOUR club benefited from it then I guess that's all that really matters doesn't??

btw, I believe the All stars team atravelling to certain parts of the state to promote saturday game but they're not going to Hay so no one really gives a sh*t where they go..micky mouse game anyway isn't it Pete??

see this is what im talking about in hay its all me me me

yeah its a nursery out there allright, a nursery of of babys

The Community Carnival continues today as NRL players visit 400 schools in 78 communities stretching from Sydney to Perth, into far north Queensland, New Zealand and throughout rural and regional NSW and Queensland, handing out 6500 footballs, 30,000 posters and 500 Eat Well Play Well Stay well DVDs and classroom resource packs.

what I want to know is will they visit Hay??...because if they don't then it's just not worth it![/QUOTE]

Why would they need to? Hay is covered with all the superstars heading down for Pie in the Sky!

pete,

Don't you get it?

It's comments like these, and the fact that you try and jam your pie in the sky down everybody's throats, that gives everyone indigestion.

Your constant harping makes me want to throw up, not visit Hay.
Thank f**k I don't live there. Your "country hospitality" would drive me f**king nuts. Either that, or send me into a coma.

well you can't really use the NRL comparason as guests players at level will cost an absolute bomb and will be included in their sallary cap unlike this particular instance...

contacts for this excercise is absolutely paramount and what's to say that some club have tried to replicate it but have failed because of lack of lack of contacts and sponsors??..

we;re talking about group 20 not NRL...

It's every club for them selves IMO, you promote your self and get good sponsors then you survive.

Perhaps they should send a $2 cheque to all clubs associated with the CRL as their share in the profit. :sarcasm:

..

but we're also talking about one club coming up with innovative ideas and how others should reap the benefits - but aside what they actually do, because thats what it comes down to.

One club using initiative and others benefiting.

If that was to happen to Parra we'd be mightily pissed.

I don't go as a Hay official as I am not an official of the Club. I go as a guest of a mate, and I appreciate him remembering his old mate every year at SOO time.

Regarding assisting every other Club...We don't have the backing of a Leagues Club for sponsorship. We have to compete with EVERY other sporting organisation in town for every dollar we get.
The Pie in Sky match is our major fund raiser. We are not about to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
Our fans enjoy seeing the players run around in Hay colours. AND BTW, they don't play the full 80 minutes. Tooks for instance was off the paddock more than he was on it. Tooooooooookey....

And that's the attitude that's killing the CRL...how does Hay benefit from the rest of the competition dying out? If there's no Group 20, there's no rugby league in Hay period, so I'm asking pete how he can justify bemoaning the state if the CRL while doing nothing to help anyone but Hay. Group 8 and 9 have realised that they need to work together to survive, Hay is just hoarding the wealth and damn the rest.

I think pete just wants group 20 to be just hay so they can win something each year, the premiership and the wooden spoon, its never been acheived in one season b4

hay could do it with petes crusade to destory all those who dont want a slice of his pie in the sky
