The 'how to improve the F7s' thread

Manipulation would probably still not help the team that's short but maybe it could be limited to 3 interchanges a season and not in the finals or last couple of rounds.

On another issue, what if you allowed a team to submit all 7 or 8 essays and then only the best 5 counted.

It may encourage more involvement but not necessairly disadvantage anyone as the quality still wins the day.

The thing it could do is bring teams with say 3 superstars bakc to the field if the oppsoing team wrote enough good articles to be better than their next 2 players. It would also encourage team depth rather than relying on just a few stars.

Just a thought!

Does anyone think that 'theme' or 'topic' weeks could work. Similar to how the league has different themes throughout the season (Ie 60's week) etc.

Perhaps there could be a bonus 5 points for the team with the best spread? For example, the Raiders play the Lions. The scores are:
Raiders: -------------------- Lions:
A: 82 ---------------------->> A: 94
B: 84 <<---------------------- B: 79
C: 78 <<---------------------- C: 77
D: 88 <<---------------------- D: 85
E: 92 ----------------------->>E: 95
Total: 424 -----------------Total: 430

So the Lions win on a total of 430 - 6 more that the Raiders scored. But because the Raiders scored more one on one player wins, they receive the 5 bonus points. This would adjust the score to 429 plays 430 - 1 point rather than 6.

Or, another idea would see the average score taken - in the case of the Lions, it would be 86. Since 2 of the scores are above 86, they get two bonus points (1 each). The Raiders had an average of 84.8, so 2 players score a bonus point.

Just a couple of ideas really ..... a bit like rebowling no balls in cricket

I always had an interesting idea but didn't think it'd get much support- as in Poster V Poster but for their team.

Example.

Panthers
A
B
C
D
E

Pirates
F
G
H
I
J

A's article gets 80
F's gets 0.

A scores a point for the panthers

and so on...?

Its silly but its the only idea ive got atm

I think the way you put it does show the silly side only because you used such an extreme example. However, if it was added the total, it could be better and work well.

I like my other idea better, however, as it means that a bad score won't have so much potential to lose it for the team, just as it means a team can't rely on a player who consistently scores in the high 80's and above. However, if it was so extreme that teams were scoring like so: 82, 84, 89, 85 and 77, then the extra points probably wouldn't be enough to drag the score up.

If we are not going to go with an all in theme (that is, all writers are required to write on the set topic), perhaps we can have it that there is a theme set for one person to write on every so often. Any player is allowed to write the article for this theme, and he or she needs to be declared as this writer when the team is named in the match thread.

What about a cup style competition during the regular season where it is 2 on 2 with word limits of 250 words on a given topic? Would be a straight out competition with the highest scoring team playing the lowest scoring team the next round.

i still think a team should be able to submit all 7 articles and then the best 5 scores are taken.

And what happens to the other 2? Has someone written them for nothing? What if someone is a consistantly lower scorer. Will their score never count unless someone practically rewrites there article?

In a way that's already happening with 5 players plus 2 reserves. In theory at least, there are 7 players participating with all but two getting their posts entered, and then marked.

with the way it is now the 2 unused essays are able to be used at a later date. if all 7 were marked with 2 discarded then the 2 lowest really would be wasted.
