why? How is any of them a better prospect then Sau, and they dont shine over MacDoogs or Wes in my opinon... We dont need to sign a centre anyway...

2.Vuna
3.McManus
4.Sau
5.Uate

Pretty decent if you ask me...
.
Can you see anywhere in my post - if so please point it out to me - about me saying they'd replace Sau????????
.
And as you've had your opinion about 'shining' over Doogs or Wes I have mine and say that either Pommeroy or Smith would easily replace either of them, but hey that's just mine.

1 - Kids
2 - Uate
3 - Pommeroy/Smith
4 - Junior
5 - McManus

Even more decent if you ask me:D

Folau yes. Jennings is in no way better than Sau in my book.

Are you serious? Jennings will play Origin next year. If Jennings played for us and Sau for them, I get the feeling you would be singing a different tune.

I like Junior, he'd be my first centre picked next year. But he can't pass. As in, he almost literally CANNOT pass. You could take him on in one of those pass the ball comps they used to have on the footy show and wipe the floor with him.

He's a first grade player, the mechanics of passing shouldn't be something worth singing his praises for. The fact of the matter is that he is an amazing runner who creates a lot of opportunities, then bombs at least 50% of them by being a glory hog.

He's not a first grade player yet. A first grade player can stay consistent over a career, he is a potenial first grade player.

He knows how to pass just not WHEN to pass.

Well doesn't that mean he can't pass?

I'd like to think anyone who plays first grade football knows how the basics of how to pass a footy, from both left and right - it is one of the basics you get taught at 7 years of age after all...

He is a first grade player whenever he runs out into an NRL match.

The expectations for any player that plays at that level whether it be 1 game or 341 first grade games, is assumed that the player playing first grade knows the basics of passing, how to handle a simple draw and pass 2 on 1 play, basic tackling defensive technique etc etc.

You get taught this in Under 7's after all.

So you think he doesn't pass purely because he always thinks he can score himself?

Could it be that he doesn't pass very often because he doesn't back himself to consistently hit a man running onto it at pace?

Of course first grade footballers can pass the ball to some extent (although you only have to look at Jamie Ainscough as an example of a player who couldn't pass from left to right properly, and he played for Australia).

The point is not whether Sau can pass the ball to a man next to him, it is whether or not, at pace, he is confident to put it on the chest of his winger or player backing up on the inside. In my opinion he is not, so he just pins the ears back.

Look at the pass he attempted to Naiqama in the first half against Cowboys. Firstly, you can tell he knows the pass is the right play, he doesn't just take off full steam as usual. But there is hesitation in his execution. Eventually he flings it behind the charging winger and a try is bombed. There were no hands on him, it was a case of what is being referred to here as a "simple catch and pass". I think it's fair to say that he is pretty ordinary not only at accurate, consistent passing, but at having any vision whatsoever to know when to pass.

It is for those reasons, not just that he is a glory hog.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan.I like seeing those half chances turn into full breaks and tries all because of his speed, power and willingness to put the body on the line. But there is no comparison between Sau and Jennings, none at all. Jennings is one of the best centres out there.

I think Sau's speed and power has always made up (or hidden) for his lack of a passing skill, he gets away with just steam rolling over the other guy. He may have gotten away with it in the lower grades but in the NRL his inabilities are pretty obvious.

Indeed. There is a reason the Raider let him go after all.

Mal Meninga's thighs, Reg Gasnier's pace, a penguin's passing game.

Well Sau is about the same height as Danny Devito.

Maybe his arms are to short to pass properly.

LOL I remember writing a huge post about how I still thought Mad Dog had a lot to offer.

What a massive turn around regarding macdougall. Just about everyone on here was bagging him out earlier this year saying he should retire, now people are saying he should be playing next year. I'm glad I never lost faith :)

I assume this is the official "I told 'em so" parade?

Talking of centres and passing games, it's interesting to watch Simon Williams and Dan Issac in NYC - there is no doubt that Issac is bigger, faster and a more elusive runner, but the guy takes lousy options time after time. He is always trying to throw the miracle ball or going alone when he has good support players - then you have Williams who more often than not takes really good options. He sets up his winger beautifully and when he backs himself he either gets there or gives the defence nightmares trying to stop him.
In the preseason when i saw Issac for the first time i thought he was like a new and improved version of Williams, but he hasn't got the skills of the younger and much less experienced guy - and Willo is starting to look like a little tank and is now more powerful.

Was watching some highlights from 06 and 07 and boy oh boy was Tahu good... He had everything (apart from being injury prone) he could easily step, was agile as and elusive, but at the same time was massive and could run over guys. He had this no look pass thing going and setting up his winger... FURTHERMORE he was huge and put on massive hits even on big forwards... Damn we need him I must say...

I remember reading it and thinking you were correct!

This situation demonstrates what I've been saying for over 12 months on this forum, that is that many posters on here look at players week by week and never the big picture. For example if a player had a great game after having played terrible for 2 seasons, then all of a sudden that player is the answer to all the knights problems. And vise versa, when a player plays great for ages and then has a bad game, all of a sudden people call for him to be axed. There's a lot of short sighted posters on here, that's for sure.

It's strange as ainscough could kick using either foot, I remember a game against wests in 1995 where he slotted a left foot field goal. However when passing from left to right he would pass the balll inside out so the spin went away from the players chest as appossed to towards it.

to be fair.. mad dog was pretty woeful for the first 6 - 8 rounds.. and not on the field very often during the middle of the year either.

however, since no-one else is manning up i'll put my hand up and say i was wrong about doogs. as a firm doubter of his earlier this season, he has certainly made me eat a fair share of humble pie over the past month or so.

Yep I thought he was gorne earlier in the year as well - but I've been only too happy to be proved wrong since, and in fact I've only enjoyed Gidley's work more this season in our backline!
