to be fair.. mad dog was pretty woeful for the first 6 - 8 rounds.. and not on the field very often during the middle of the year either.

Completely disagree about his early form this year. I think he had one sub-par game in that period. Nearly everyone was knocking him but I believe it was just a follow on of a perception from last year. He would make one mistake and people would jump on it, ignoring the fact that he might have made a series of incisive runs, a number of off-loads and some important one-on-one tackles. He was doing those things in nearly all the early rounds. I maintained at the time that he was going exeptionally well and if you look at the stats from those games he was outstanding in almost every facet.

doogs defense was diabolical early in the season. that side of the field was leaking a great deal of points.

I wasn't a fan of Doogs playing this year but that was only because we put in one of the worst defensive efforts of 2007. Constantly out of position and made his winger look terrible.

But Mad Dog came out and put his hand up. Said it took him aloooong time to adjust to how Smitty wanted him to defend and this year we are seeing him finally cope with that.

Pomeroy cant pass either.

I have never seen hi pass the ball. When we played them I was screaming to get up on him cos he cant pass...... But we would gladly take him?? Seriously.

He is garbage... Sau and McManus craps on him... In 04 or whatever was a great prospect then lost all his abillity... Decent centre at best not worth throwing money at...

I disagree, he is still finding his feet back in the NRL. When he hits his strides he'll re-capture the form that saw him hold off Nigel Vagana (sp?) when he was at his best with the dogs.

He re-signed with the Cowboys.

Cheers (JM too)

Sorry, Perverse, I just don't believe that's true. It is a fact that he was largely responsible for the two late tries Canberra scored in round one--being guilty of ball watching, straying in and leaving Vuna stranded a la last year. (He was great in attack in that game though btw, and foreshadowed his good season with a break in the first set of the season.) Other than that Doogs wasn't very good under kicks in our first game against the Roosters--although I believe he played injured for most of that game. Those instances aside his defence was outstanding even in the early part of the season. Hardly missed a tackle and made some great one-on-one hits that stifled opposition movements and got us quite a few vital turnovers as well.

i was at both the games you mention at this post, and i watched doogs f**k up plenty from the comfort of my living room, so there was plenty more wrong with his defense than those two instances.

believe what you like, but he was making some shocking reads early on. doogs himself put his hand up and has addressed it. he's going gangbusters now and i'm glad he's still at the club. i'd even keep him for next year tbh.. especially if this "established centre" doesn't end up making his way to newcastle.

Well, I guess we're in agreement that his defence wasn't flash in those two games and he hardly played any other games for the first couple of months. My point would be that people were still knocking him until about 6 weeks ago and I feel he's been terrific and very consistent from about round 12 onwards.

yep, that's fair enough. i was on doogs case for a lot longer than that.

all i know definitively is that we're lucky that im not coaching the knights, as doogs would have been out on his arse instead of tearing up the opposition now.

His defense was sh*t all last year too, I just don't get the improvement he's made. He's always been our best attacking back, the defense was my problem. But it would be difficult to bag him now. Easily in the top 5 centres on form of the last half of the season.
