Like OP said, Penrith didn't need him until the end of his contract so i doubt they would have paid him for two years. I find it difficult to believe that Penrith paid them anything TBH. WT played hard ball and Penrith backed away with plan B. They locked in Plan A a little later and for two years time.

IC saying it wasn't how he wanted it etc indicates to me he was honestly going to see out the remainder of his contract with them. WT cancelled that on him.

Seems to contradict your previous post where you said Penrith would have to pay the difference between the two contracts.

Take from me the Tigers got compo, okay it was not directly out of the Penrith’s football account but it came from IC and I guess IC will make the money up in a better contract at Riff. The amount was basically 66% of Madge’s first year contract. We will never know the real terms of the release but that is what I was told by a guy who works for the WT football operations dept. Also both Pascoe and Go have said on record they got compo

Doesn’t make sense to me. Employees don’t generally pay compensation to their employers to get out of contracts early. Particularly not hundreds of thousands like we’re talking about here.

How about this suggestion.....answer the question!

Does it have to be explained or are you playing dumb?

By your comment of white anting, you mean the Tigers players.

Potter's contract was up and wasn't renewed.

Taylor wasn't living up to performance criteria. He was sacked while contracted. He got PAID.

Clearly actively looked for another job while contracted. Crapped on about everyone getting on the bus. Went back to a club that sacked him because his boy is there. That's facts. No Nathan, no emotion, and no returning to a club that ousted him.

Yep. I said Penrith are obliged to recompense any difference in two contracts and they probably did but IMO, and under the circumstances, I don't think they would have had to though.

IC maybe liable to Wt for the cost to find his replacement. That I would see fair and reasonable.

Riiiight. Ok. So what you’re saying is they did but they didn’t. Thanks for clarifying!

They do if they are on a fixed term contracts with no get out clause. You see it in movie stars who want to bail on a contract before filming starts because they got a better offer.

Works both ways, club cant get rid without paying you out and you cant leave without paying yourself out.

So you want to crucify a bloke for wanting to work with his son?

And based on your first line, I take it that you've worked the same job all of your life?

Everyone's a winner in this merry go round.
Panthers got their man early
Tigers got a better coach
Souths got Bennett
Broncos got rid of Bennett
well except Manly who got Hasler back lol

Winners are grinners.

Lol poor old Ivan was hard done by by the Tigers then? C'mon Panthers fans, no need to keep up the charade. You got what you wanted, so good luck!
The ball was in WT court. Ivan had been there long enough already to capitalise on the work he had already done. Another 2 years was more than enough for Cleary to at least strengthen them even further,if not,a GF appearance and maybe a title.

I think if the WT were given a bit more thinking time, they would have hung onto him which I think would have been the best move.

But it's water under the bridge now. The biggest worry for the Balmain arm of this franchise is if they will actually continue to exist beyond 2021...as I'm sure they will.

How dare the Tigers, are you kidding? Penrith created a situation where they knew the Tigers would be forced to release Cleary, not against the rules but unethical and a classless act.

Cleary was in the Panthers grandstand with the Panthers GM to watch his son play like he has numerous times in the season. He asked Cleary what his plans were after his contract with WT had expired.

Either way,the Panthers or Tigers clubs were going to get screwed. Cleary stays beyond 2020,they would have got Nathan...Tigers fans would have been dancing in the streets. Ivan obviously feels there is a premiership or three humming in the works ATM in the Panthers.

So you can see why he left...especially when 12 other coaches threw their hats in. Of course the choice was always going to be either Ciraldo or Cleary.
