I have addressed the union support. Much of it is a 'protest' and convenience vote. If you take away a thriving generational rivalry such as Norths and Manly, guess what!?: the locals will find somewhere else to go and continue some sort of rivalry despite incompetent rugby league administrative decisions! That's what has happened in northern Sydney. Top flight rugby league rivalry is what the localstatus want. The union support is a protest vote and a local convenience stance.

The RU clubs you refer to have always drawn well so that debunks that myth. Thank you for proving though that clubs can be successful below the top teir in Australia though.

Lol. Not with crowds of around 10000 ! This is a recent phenomemail. Don't try to suggest this is the norm. It's absolutely not.

The crowds that you refer to have only started building to that point since 2015 when Nick Fordham and John Murray purchased the TV rights for a steal and started promoting the comp which got it a major sponsor (Intrust Super) and got 7two to broadcast games. This promotion went hand-in-hand with the traditional clubs playing at traditional grounds (which is very appropriate and useful at that level) and built to what we saw last year crowd-wise.

Why did Bears fans wait 20 years to ''protest vote''?
Why weren't Shute Shield crowds ballooning in 1999?
And since it can be done in Union with Shute Shield (3rd teir RU) why can't it be done with NSW Cup (2nd teir RL)?

Lol. What a veiled excuse. If the Bears were playing Manly Warringah in the top flight such an endeavour for union would not have succeeded or been thought of!

Why didn't the Shute Shield attendances boom in 1999 if the reason it succeeded is because of the Bears situation? Why did it boom some 20 years later?

Why in your view can't the NSW Cup tap into the same nostalgia that Shute Shield can? It has certainly shown to be possible.

After twenty years many loyal RL fans may have moved on or passed away. (Not to say if a top flight Bears were reincarnated that fans would come back though!) The lesser code of union has taken up a demand that rugby league is not catering for. It's as simple as that. You surely don't think union is an attractive enough code too instantly cater for fans that are used to action on a footy field?

"Union has taken up a demand rugby league is not catering for" I've heard it all now :joy:

In northern Sydney. Absolutely. Definitely not enough top flight rugby league. And with a major local rival in the Bears being in 2nd grade it's making things worse for the code's relevance in that region. 1.2 million people with only one top flight club!? Something must-have picked up the slack. And the ugly code of union is doing so.

What do North Sydney and Manly get?

Nowadays North Sydney not playing in the top flight would not attract 1000 I assume? A poorly achieving and high ticket pricing policy at Manly have whittled away their attendances, especially this year. And without a genuine local derby rival to excite/appease fans in a down season, this club is faced with an even more precarious position thanks to major mistakes made in 1997 from the Superleague fiasco 'agreement'.

15,500 at the Grand Final at NSO is about all I can find to match what you're saying.

Got anything else?

A number of times I've seen 10000 at Warringah when hosting Manly in recent seasons on tv. And other northern Sydney union games have had crowds near that number. The word is that local union is booming, especially in northern Sydney. Laurie Daley confirmed this in a statement on the BSB about a month ago. But then again observation and such sources don't cut it with certain people on this site. But what I have informed is common knowledge. Some choose to believe it and some don't? ! So the people whom can't work out whether their pants are on fire will only say so when it's too late. It's true for a number of you on this site. Others are accepting and constructive with such comments. The 'pants on fire brigade ' choose to ridicule and ignore.

You got a link to where you have seen this?
It’s not that the sources don’t cut it, you just never provide them.

Ok I will just wait 6 months to see your source. Good argument.

It's valid Pommy . It will be on free to air and pay tv during the winter on Saturday afternoons. My source is tv coverage and commentary both on 7 mate(or one of those related channels ? ) and Fox tv.
