The Official Dylan Brown thread

Just on Walker, in his 7 game career he has:

3 line breaks
16 LBAs (more than Dylan Brown's whole 41 game career)
13 try assists (more than Dylan Brown's whole 41 game career)
4 tries

I'm still yet to see anything in attack that suggests Dylan Brown will be a good half.

Gee this discussion seems very similar to one we had last year, but that was about Mahoney.......

FFS Drown, come on kid start playing like a 150 game halfback veteran !! Who gives a shit if you are only 20 without a full nrl season under your belt without a serious injury and only 40 or so games to your name!!!!

Dylan Brown is getting more money than Sam Walker will be next year. It doesn't matter how old either of them are. They need to be playing to their pay grade or they will cop criticism.
No doubt they will cop criticism, by merkins who have unrealistic expectations.
You've determined that Walker is a once in a generation player on seven games?
I didn’t offer him a 5 year deal, the Roosters did.

Not really. It's a bit more nuanced than that. I'm not writing him off but at this stage in his career it looks like he is underperforming and we are overpaying. 40 games is a reasonable sample size to speculate on.

Which also proves my other point that everyone expects the next young kid to be a once a generation player. News flash ! You get one every generation.
I see what you are saying .... we got the shit one .... we should have got Sam

we aren’t overpaying, it’s the market rate for a half.......

Additionally 40 games is stuff all for a half (and his defence/running game is already pretty decent). Listen to Matty Johns (aside from his piss take / joking side he is one of best half coaches in the game) talk about development of halves. Basically his view is don’t expect much from them in their first 100 games as they are basically just trying to survive in the NRL.

And look at our now “elite” half Moses, finally after 150 or so games he is finally starting to get what is required for a half back....

And on Mahoney after 40 or so games, he apparently had a limited game with no running ability .......look at him now.

He's played just 3 fewer games than Brown over the last three seasons. And given the difference in those stats he should be worth a fair bit more still.
Well I'm sure he is, but if he's still unsigned it's because he hasn't yet agreed on a value with any potential club, not because no club wants him.

D.Brown is average. That's fine. Except he costs 650k while W.Smiths on about 150k and is more creative.
He's an ordinary playmaker but a phenomenal footballer, for his age. I think the problem is merkins are rating him as a primary playmaker, whereas in our team he is the fourth fiddle in our spine. His main jobs are running and tackling, and he does them well.

We don't know how much they're getting paid. Do you really think there was so little demand for Walker?

I don’t think anyone here expects or wants him to be our primary playmaker. What we do expect is for him to provide some playmaking, because you know, that’s also his job.

I reckon Mahoney had already shown he had all the skills prior to this year. It was just a matter of doing it more consistently. Dylan Brown looks like a backline utility with elite speed and defence. A future Eels team with Gutherson, Moses and Arthur in it sees Drown miss out on a place in the spine. And I think he will probably always will be a better player than Jake Arthur, just not a better half.

I'm sure he hasn't forgotten how. But moving to the right he is away from the action, just as Moses was last year.

However, Jarthur didn’t seem out of the action anywhere near as much as Drown. You reckon Mahoney and Moses have more faith in his attacking ability and giving him better ball? That’s telling if so.

Yeah but Drown has saved more trys than all those blokes put together. Has Drown ever missed 5 tackles in a game? Ffs our 20 year old was moved to the opposite side of the field to improve the teams defence. The guy also scored the match sealing try V The Sombrero Cheats. Drown is doing just fine.
