Brown
2019: 0.33 TA per game
2020: 0.28 TA/game
2021: 0.13 TA/game

Moses
2019: 0.96 TA/game
2020: 0.42 TA/game
2021: 1.00 TA/game

Gutherson
2019: 0.50 TA/game
2020: 0.77 TA/game
2021: 0.80 TA/game

This points to a distinct change in our structure in each of the past three years, which I think is obvious from watching. In 2019 Gutherson played right with Drown left and Moses in the middle. Last year it was Gutherson left, Moses right with Drown in the middle. This year Gutherson is still on our left side but Moses is now in the middle. We have also become a dominant left side attack over the past two years.
What are Kenny’s stats, semen fingers?

I reckon Mahoney had already shown he had all the skills prior to this year. It was just a matter of doing it more consistently. Dylan Brown looks like a backline utility with elite speed and defence. A future Eels team with Gutherson, Moses and Arthur in it sees Drown miss out on a place in the spine. And I think he will probably always will be a better player than Jake Arthur, just not a better half.

Not sure where you get the idea he has elite speed.

Brett Kenny didn’t play in an era of split halves. In this day and age Brett Kenny would have been a fullback.

I disagree. In this day and age Brett Kenny would be the best five-eight in the game - despite not having a kicking game.

Meaning the five-eight is back? You beautie!!
At least at some clubs. Quite a few of them split their 1 and 6 left/right. I'm not sure having the 6 on one side of the field is the same as having a genuine five eighth playing both sides of the field. I believe Cody Walker is the only one.

he also played a lot at centre, in the days of split halves 5/8s dont have the running game that Bert had
Or more specifically, they don't get the opportunities. One of the things that came out of split halves was that when attacking from one side or the other (instead of from the middle) either half potentially got the opportunity to run a bit wider, effectively taking turns at first and second receiver. This seemed to morph into the current style where teams are mostly attacking from one side of the field (like they used to). But instead of the five-eighth telegraphing which way the ball was going to go by standing on what would be the open side in the upcoming shift, he just stays on his side, the fullback stays on his side, and the modern halfback plays the traditional role in the middle.

As you say, with genuine split halves it was quite different.

Bert played alot like gutho does now
Gutherson does seem to have a bit of a free role. He only really parks himself wide on the left inside the opposition 20. Looking at 80s Eels footage, plenty of dudes seemed to have a free role in attack. Aside from at a scrum, the only merkins lining up in a predictable way were the wingers.

You do know that Des is taking note of your posts. Thanks for giving him a freebie on part of our attacking strategy. You're the scapegoat if we get done this weekend......fmd!

You're right there, although Taylor was our fb he didn't attack much except when he played hb and sterlo would rest at fb.

Ella used to wrap around Cronin alot

In Bert's book he said he and Ella used to swap during games, between five-eighth and outside centre. But in the footage I've seen there were often random forwards involved or one of the centres or halves might've been missing from one particular shift. It's very hard to work out the general structure, if they even had one. And maybe that was the point.
