The crowd tonight was better than any crowd to any of last year's Qualifying Finals.

Well done to the NRL publicity machine for promoting the game. Nothing again as usual.

It was a terrific game and a great atmosphere to match.

Some of the most pathetic apologising for a sport I have ever read:lol::lol::lol:

Victorian ALERT, Victorian ALERT

oh and 19k:lol::lol:
QFT!! The Flogball is meant to be the number 1 sport in the country, only a half full stadium for a semi final in Flogball heartland. And he blames the cold but he lives in Victoriania lol

So seeing as Melbourne won, assuming they wont get the week off, they will again have another game at Etihad and be up against an AFL Preliminary Final (pending on somethings from the AFL side of things).

How about this for a test of things in Melbourne, if Saints, Canterbury and the Gold Coast lose, Melbourne will host a Preliminary final at Etihad on Saturday September 26, the same day as the AFL Grand Final. (after the AFL GF finishes of course)

Its the 2 least supported teams in the finals, the no1 supported team is playing tomorrow night in the most interesting final of the weekend, that will get the neutrals

You ignoramus. There is no such thing as a neutral supporter when Collingwood are involved.

I guess the NRL will play Friday night again next week, although if Adelaide wins tomorrow then Saturday night will be free in Melbourne

The NRL want one team to move away from their home ground in week one of the finals... And they get their wish, pity it was Melbourne who looks like only got about 2k more than they would of at Olympic... meanwhile StG v Parra will be played in front of 17k and should of got 50k

God its good to be a footy fan....

That's just not good enough.

47k @ MCG? Given the sport is supposed to be a saturated one in Melbourne, that's pretty pisspoor. By comparison we had a team normally averaging 12k bring 21k into a stadium they rarely play in.

For 1, its a much better stadium and much more accessible. So if anything, its a boost - certainly not a detractor. And is NRL not saturated in Sydney? Yet where is the final that gets 47k for a low drawing team playing an interstate team?

Actually, its amazing that they got that much. Bulldogs have the 2nd smallest fanbase in the city; now when you take into account that Brisbane are an interstate team, 47k seems to be punching above their weight.

I dont really understand how it being AFL heartland has anything to do with the fact that it was the Bulldogs v Brisbane. Its not as if supporters of other teams are going to attend. And Bulldogs certainly dont have 47k active supporters on average.

Anyway, you guys are being pretty unfair with the criticisms.

St George Illawarra are arguably the best supported club in the NRL. The absurdity of the home finals layout at the moment means that they will play to the smallest crowd this weekend. 21,000 @ Etihad last night, 27,000 @ Skilled tonight, and well in excess of 20k expected at ANZ, possibly even 30k... and we can only get 18k max to a semi final because the ground's so small.

Rothfield might be a sh*tstirring a*hole, but there is a point to be made, playing a semi in front of 18k when playing it elsewhere could easily see the attendance doubled boggles the mind. Other codes, particularly AFL, must be laughing at us...

ANZ pulled 40k + crowds for games involving the Roosters and Eels against the Cowboys back in 2004-5...

I don't care how amazing you think it is. If the AFL is really "in a league of it's own", then finals footy should be filling at least half the MCG, given it's essentially the "home of AFL". As for Brisbane being an interstate team, you're kidding right? They might be based in Queensland but the club's history harks to the Fitzroy Lions, a very much VICTORIAN team for close to 100 years. The team would have considerable support in the Melbourne area, more-so than interstate teams from SA or WA.

We aren't being at all unfair with our criticisms. Last year the Swans (an AFL team in NRL heartland) hosted a QF @ ANZ Stadium and only drew 19k through the gate in an 83.5k seater stadium. This year the Storm (an NRL team in AFL heartland) hosted a QF @ Etihad and drew 21k through the gate in a 55k seat stadium, on the same night a home final for a local team failed to fill more than half the MCG.

Given the status, coverage and such of each respective sport, the NRL has performed very well in Victoria this time.

If you're really that keen on AFL, I'm sure that there are many forums to accommodate you. The only posts I've ever seen from you are in these Crowd threads where you go into bat for the AFL... why do you bother when it's an RL forum?

I can't imagine many of the NRL finals getting more than 47k..

Unless Brisbane gets a home game at some point.

47k would be considered a good crowd for us, why are we bashing AFL for that?

Whatever but the AFL game got 15,000 more than the home teams average for the year and at a ground foreign to them, Storm didnt do so well afterall

lol, you fools. Eddiesmith is right...you girls will raise your hands at me....and no one will ever have a clue on here.

An impressive storm crowd would have been in the region of 25-30k+. It wasn't. Its a small consolation that it was 6k larger than olympic could have held. Thats a 50% increase on olympic park. Still disappointing, either way you look at it.

There's always next year. nuf said.

Yep, 21k out of 4,000,000 who had no interest in the AFL game tonight chose the RL, well done

and there we have it, you go too far. but right once again.

well done. A devious double-agent comment.

I vote for going too far, as it was said with a hint of spite and my allegiance lays with rl.

Well its not exactly the hottest ticket in town, people are still finding ways to get tickets.

Parra fans obviously dont wanna show up and perhaps only the diehard Saints fans are going to be there with the rest saving their money for down the track.

Maybe an idea for next season, home final to be at nearest large venue? However given Manly never had to move from Brookie, ditto scumulla from Toyota, and it was assumed home final right up until the last few weeks, there is no way it should've been moved this season

Besides if anyone was interested in the game tonight, it was on FTA on only a 30 minute delay, why go out on a freezing cold night with a gale blowing when you can watch it on TV?

Storm dont have the same excuse seeing as the game is on at Midnight and the ground is indoors

wow, a redemption. great accuracy once one extracts the full facts.

some other people need to realize, all the dick-length comparisons are really silly. its comparing apples to oranges.

the w/bulldogs, broke, chased sponsors for ages, barely any fans, repulsive, dumb name - playing an out of town team. 50k. good for them. not too bad. great considering the teams involved. had it been collingwood v essendon another story.

stop the dick comparisons
