Souths win by 35 points tomorow, they are on top of the ladder.
win by 14 they are second. How bad are they again?

How good would Minicello have played for the sharks last night with 28% possession? Could you see him, wesser, Hodgson, et al in close to the ruck trying to create stuff like Peach does? How well would peach go in the warriors team, Souths, Broncos, penrith or melbourne?

Our team is 5 games old. Already we have used over 24 players in firsts.
We have not had the same backline twice. Not even close to the same.

Our strike front rower has only played 3 games of which we had one in the bag with seconds to go, won another & got beaten by the possible comp leaders in the other.

3 of our games we have lost a player for the entirity of the match.

We have had a bad run with 50/50 calls.

The broncos lost 8 in a row, with an almost Origin Team. The Pennys lost two seasons in a row, now can't be touched.
The knights can't win a semi without Johns. The Warriors are now struggling with the same team that nearly won the GF 15 months ago.

I'm sure theres more.

I think you're a negative S-O-B Marlin. Get a bit of optimisim about ya!

And who names themselves after a dog from a QLD beer commercial anyway?

A Shark would eat a marlin any day...

Don't get me wrong.
I have a method to my optimism. & a cut off date.
I must see improvement & effort.
That was never there under Anderson. Once the reality of rebuilding set in & the losses cam, the only things we ever heard were we're getting there. we're not far off. Good kids blah blah 74-10

The guys had a mission this week. A very public mission. They went out to improve discipline & they sacrificed ruck control to do so.
Stated short term goal.
Acheived short term goal.
Next.

All of what you say is pretty well spot on Reefy.
It is the only thing keeping me sane, the knowledge that we've never had close to our best side out there, and never for any length of time before injuries/suspensions.

There are glimpses of hope in amongst the rot. The question is whether we can actually get everyone fit (barring Bird on suspension) and whether Stuey has the mental capacity to spot what are some glaring selection decisions which need to be made.

I'm confident we can turn it around. We just need everyone fit.
It's the forwards where we're losing it, but with Stevo, Beattie, Williams, Lomu, Gallen, Galloway, Newton, Russo, Green to pick from surely we can put some grunt out there.

I don't think its the forwards. They are all good, just some are not being used right.

More perspective.

How dejected & awful did the cronulla side of 2001 look when they walked off shark park after being flogged by Parra?
See ya Richo, hello Preston. It took one tweak to turn around a 1/7 record into one of the most entertaining football teams I've seen. ooh & winners.
Could merrit be the Spark? Williams? Who knows what may happen when get some penetration. 8)

The current Australian 1/2 is our captain.
We have one of the world's best centers.
In form our 2 starting props are Origin level players.
13 wins makes the finals, 12 to go from 19.
Our wingers are very quick, utilised better that speed is awesome attacking weapon.

Trying to stay positive.

I see some similarities to our situation in 2001, and 2002 in that we have a number of our best players out injured. However, in 2001, we were losing to the better sides like Parramatta, Brisbane, Roosters, not cellar dwellers like Souths, and Nqld. I think we can get better this year, but I don't think the players have been together long enough to really cick. In my opinion this years side is more like the side of 1994, the first year under Lang, when we started showing promise again after a long drought.

We've been stripped right back to year zero again. This is the first year under Raper, with new players, that don't really know each other well enough yet to be a cohesive unit. They lack confidence after the debacle that was 2003. The nucleus of the 2001, and 2002, sides had been playing together for years. This years mob are playing like they are all strangers to each other. That's because they are.

I've lowered my expectations for this season. I want us to show some promise and potential, and build towards something good next year. if we make the semis I'll be surprised and happy.

Glad you're not death riding Raper too, Blacktip. I feel sorry for the poor bloke. Hope he can turn it around.
Those things you mentioned are absolutely correct, but it's not just this year. Similar happenings last year, including Noddy's Nut.

I still can't write them off. We need to win at home. That loss has certainly dulled my enthusiasm. We did not have our best side on the field though. Hopefully we find our best side soon though because once we start to slide (and we are) it's hard to stop. I am hopeful of a much better showing this Saturday.

As Reefy said, we have achieved one short term goal. We need to confirm that achievement next week whilst achieving another one. Scoring more points than the opposition.

argh

the horror

frankly though i thought a succesful season would have been to win more than we loose

but the main perspective for me is that the last 2 seasons it is becoming increasingly apparent we have too many players to carry

i hoped that they would have improved but for the large part they seem to have reached their potential

oh and by the way those calling saturdays debacle acheiving a goal are correct

however we may need to set some new goals if we find some sort of phyric victory here

Noddy said it. It was disgusting that they showed up with no enthusiasm.

Decent sides bounce back from humiliating losses, not run out looking like they don't want to be there.

As to how well they did on the penalties, that is Kindergarten stuff. If they need to lose a game becasue they are too busy not giving away penalties they don't deserve to be in First Grade.

And for me the most disappointing part wasn't how they defended, which is when they are most likely to get penalised, it was their absolutely pedestrian attack. And don't give me that stuff about how little possesion they had, an arguement you refused to accept as reasonable any time in the last 2 years as I remember, because it started from the first set. And who was it who let NQ get all that extra ball? It wasn't through penalties.

Whichever way you look at it it was an appaling display against an average team. If we want to keep any credibility things have to change and quickly.

I still believe we can make the eight, no question. the comp is so tightly bunched that the table will remain compact for most of the year. 4 wins on the trot at any stage can throw us back up there.

but the change needs to be immense, as noddy said today in the paper, we kind of thought our early draw was going to be a good shot at 3 or 4 wins ! we've played the easy teams already.
