that is true re GF day, but the lead up is also crucial. For example look at these teams....

Canberra 1989 had to win their last 8 games straight in order to make the 8 and then win it all from 4th
Brisbane 1993 won from 5th place
Canterbury 1995 won from 6th and beat the dragons, broncos, raiders and eagles to win it all.
If you want to talk lead ups, then the 2002 Chooks are hard to beat....9 straight and continued with teh World Club Challenge. Pretty impressive, hard, footy.

Broncos 98
Raiders 94
Broncos 92
Manly 96
Broncos 2000
Raiders 1990
Roosters 2002

these were the real dominant sides to win gfs, the teams that were tipped to win it from the word go and went on and did it and destroyed all the teams along the way. Broncos 98 with there all round brilliance, Canberra 94 with there incredible backline, Manly 96 with there unbelievable defence, roosters 02 werent in this same category but the way they played the 2nd half of the season was as good as id seen any team ever play, they just destroyed everyone.

Great teams to not win the GF:

Parramatta 01
Bulldogs 02
Broncos 96
Manly 95
Dragons 93
Dragons 99
Sharks 99
Roosters 03/04

i think the backlines and halves just about cancell each other out. So it comes down to forward packs (and maybe alittle biased) but i think the raiders pack, particually back row and hooker have it over their brisbane counter parts
I think Stuart and Langer cancelled each other out but Daley had it over Kevvy.

I reckon the dogs team from last year is right up there, especially with someone like SBW coming off the bench.

kevvie would be throwing "outballs" to renouf all day long...just like the ones he through in the 1992 GF and the 1992 world cup final.
Canberra wouldnt be able to cope.

What were Parramatta's stats in 2001?

parramatta didnt win a comp in 2001 so that dont qualify as a great team...plus "on paper" the eagles/broncos/raiders leave the eels for dead

brisbane invented the outball...and renouf would have been too quick for mal once he got on the outside of the big fella. Once kevvy throws the outball its try time!

Who said Parramatta 2001 were a great team?

I'd like to see the comparison of their stats Vs the three 'great' teams of recent times.

Parramatta 2001 Stats -
Points For : 839 (142 tries - 135 goals - 1 field goal)
Points Against : 406 (67 tries - 68 goals - 2 field goals)
Points Difference : +433

so nooooo... nothing compared to canberra 94, brisbane 98 or manly 96.... if anything they were a class ABOVE those 3 teams looking at the stats...

trying to talk up the eels perverse so that the knights look even better in 2001?

stats look great, but stats dont win you grand finals.....great teams do...and parramatta were not a great team compared to the 1994/6/8 teams

no, i didn't bring the stats into this.. and someone else had mentioned they would like to see them, i was simply obliging.

i was proud of my team in 2001, and rightfully so.

There is one thing the 94 Raiders, 98 Broncos and 96 Sea Eagles have that the 01 Eels do not.

I don't think any team comes close to the 94 Raiders, 98 Broncos, and 00 Broncos. The 04 Dogs were great and the best of the rest, but they don't even come close.
