Celebrate or accept ?
Celebrate/endorse/promote/support, take your pick.
But until they are asked to play with an openly gay player, or sit down and have dinner with one, we won't know their level of acceptance.

BTW, they have apparently agreed to meet and discuss their views with Ian Roberts, so maybe they are able to accept that there are differences.

If the Penns were involved with the implementation of the Jersey it would of been months in planning, why did they just blindside the players at the last min?? Shows how little they know about the players in their club.

No I don't. You might not like it but the rainbow flag has a strong association with gay pride. So it's not a good analogy.
Crossing one’s self doesn’t have strong association with Christianity?
Sure there would’ve been people celebrating it last night, but other then the jerseys did you see anything from Manly or players that was super pro-gay?
I’ve got no problem with players refusing, the club has done wrong by blindsiding them via media but let’s not pretend everyone is now gay proud and anti-Christian

Yep. Either they’ve sprung this on the players without thinking or caring if they wanted to wear it, or they informed them earlier but let the media blindside them now

Manly Sea Eagles players who boycotted last night's match against Sydney Roosters rather than play in a jersey designed to promote diversity have agreed to wear it next season if they are consulted in the process, owner and chairman Scott Penn says.

-----8<-----

Asked if he thought there was a greater chance of getting his players involved next year, Penn was adamant there was, saying the players had indicated that.

"Absolutely, it's about mutual respect and inclusiveness of everyone," he said.

"Maybe we call it Respect Round. Or Everyone In League.

They should get all NRL players to rock up at Magic Round wearing shirts that identify their beliefs/ideals and then pick teams based on similar shirts.

Are players being forced to do the sign of the cross? As for pretending everyone is now gay proud and anti Christian I think you're confusing someone else's arguments with mine.

So even the guy who thought of it admits they botched it. Yet you guys love those high horses. Long way down.

I agree because there are still plenty of silent and passive bigots in the world. They just can't come out in the open and get away with it like they could before.

This is a good thing. Suppress their taught bigotry and until they die and as each one of them passes, the next gen will be a little or a lot more tolerable or inclusive and slowly as the years go by we may eventually get to a point where all this 'it's a sin' bullsh*t that has been passed down for 2000+ years now will be all but a ridiculous foot note in a history lesson for future generations to laugh at and be shocked. Or at least we can hope.
Whilst I probably wouldn’t be so blasé about killing off a generation to reach the outcome, I broadly agree with the sentiment mate.

Oh please don't pull out the ancient cultures bullsh*t line. Most cultures also practice paedophilia, cannibalism and virgin sacrifice not to mention a hell of a lot of other terrible and anti social stuff that we would all run from if they continued to follow.

Over time many eventually changed their ways, while others, in many cases, were forced to stop their ridiculous practices and they did and they over time got over it. Anti homosexuality is still around because it is easy to make fun of something that you are not and don't do in your bedroom or is written in some text that you can cherry pick what bits suit your lifestyle and denounce the rest.

Not all culture are equal. Old does not mean good. Look at Biden FFS!
However, I agree 100% with this.

Can someone please explain exactly what the rainbow represents? It seems to have many different meanings to many different people. Some say it's inclusive, inclusive of what exactly? A new colour seems to be added every month meaning they found someone else to include that wasn't included before. Some people view the rainbow as a promotion of a sexual lifestyle. Does it surprise anyone really that some people who hold conservative views on sex aren't really keen on promoting a lifestyle 'they' don't wish to live. Some say the rainbow means acceptance, some say the rainbow means celebration.

Is there a clear meaning?
According to the Bible originally the rainbow was the sign/promise that God made to man that he wouldn’t destroy the world by rain after the Noah’s Ark episode.

Originally the Gay and Lesbian community took those colours on their flag. I noticed recently that their flag is missing one colour from the rainbow spectrum. I wonder why they did that? Resistance from religious groups or accidental?

So then I revert back to the Indigenous scenario I posed earlier. If 7 of our players stood themselves down on indigenous round, is your position that it’s between the club and them, and accusations of bigotry have no place. The only difference here is that the current issue that has associations with the LGTBQIA+ Community make you (and others) less comfortable.
The indigenous stuff makes me uncomfortable too. More so, in fact, because an ethnic group is better able to seize and amass power at the expense of others than a group based on sexual orientation.

But also, celebrating an ethnic culture doesn’t conflict with any deeply held moral code I’m aware of.
