I havent read all of this, skipped pages, but i believe this discussion started with a comment about the murals popping up over sydney .... specifically the one of an imp with a teddy bear head in the heart of sydney. Then progressed to claims that is too much and things are in our faces. Which i think is a fair comment, in relation to that.

Do people think that is appropriate? ... or is it ok in light of it being presented as a pride thing?

I dont think that mural is appropriate. I dont think over sexualising anything in public is apprpriate, hetro or homo. Take the rainbow flag off that and present it as a hetro man and people would still be upset.

I dont think kids need to be intentionally presented with any sexualised things until they are much older. Just let kids be kids and be whatever they are. Its your chance to just be innocent and happy in life, let it be. Dont try and make them BE anything, just let them be.

How does a mural "make" someome be anything. There's a mural of a fish near my place - it doesn't make any kids be a fish that I know of...

People (adults) are just (still) scared of things that are different and they don't understand. The way some people seem to still behave around that and the opinions they have aren't respectful to minorities of people who are different from them, and not respectful to people of the future (young generations) who will thankfully be much more relaxed about these things.

I'd hoped we'd be better by now, but we are clearly not... but then I shouldn't be surprised, because people vote for intolerant religious f**kwits like Scomo and Perrottet in elections.

I don't think they are intolerant. They are just pointing to some of the motives around Pride day that you appear to have a blind spot to. Its a shame that those points cant be rationally discussed without people being shut down and called a "homophobe".

When Hiney used the word 'normal' that was an error, but one that I didn't dwell on given the rest of his post showed he is far from being a homophobe.

Absolutely agree that we shouldn't have a country where people are in fear of being gay. Tolerance is essential to any well functioning society.

However, whenever the pendulum appears to be swinging too far the other way its inevitable that some people with pre-disposed views will double down on those.

Its also likely that those without strong views might resent any attempts to re-define social norms, which is what is currently occurring on the topic of gender.

You don't know what their motive is yet you are quick to label them.

You should learn to understand both sides of any given argument. Empathy is a valued commodity.
