Can't totally disagree with you there. As far as the post made above about Gidley in the halves by someone else, Gidley goes alright when playing ad lib footy like an Allstars game but is not suited to playing in the halves in a structured game such as origin. He gets in the way (in his own way actually).
Which is what I've also started to noticed about how Jennings plays (especially after last nights All Stars). The more structured the game, the less he is involved and dominates. A game like the All Stars or against a team who isn't as structured and has less ball control he then seems to create some damage.

I think in another thread they had all Jennings tries and all Chris Lawrence tries from last year and I watched one lot and then the other and the difference was striking - Jennings was more a take advantage of errors, or being out into big gaps, while lawrence had much more where he had to do a lot of work and get through defences - its why I think he should be an origin certainty

Michael Jennings taking advantage of errors would have a lot more to do with the Panthers attacking strategies than his own deficiencies.

They're different attacking players.

Jennings is a guy who needs to get the ball early and in space, he does his best work before the line with great footwork and acceleration, he doesn't need set plays to break the line, just needs to get his hands on the ball in space.

Lawrence to me seems like hole runner, a guy who works well with a flatter ball closer to the line where he can run with power and speed to hit gaps and break the line, thus his style is better suited to set plays and decoys close to the line.

Just different kinds of players really, doesn't make either better or worse than the other.

I do agree with the statement though that he is severely under utilised at Penrith, rarely gets clean early ball and as a result he makes a lot of impact around dummy half, supporting ball players and capitalising on broken plays, a testament to him that he has adapted his game in the last year or so.

Pearce isnt a player who is going ot take defense on by running or passing the ball, the only thing he does is kick the ball. Which puts the pressure on the 5/8 who needs to do all the attacking, nsw needs a halfback what at least trys to do more then just kick the ball, against good defence.

Ah, that explains his lack of tries then. Oh wait...he scored the most tries of any halfback in the NRL in 2010. 3rd in try assists (3 more than Carney). 2nd in Line break assists.

Majority of teams in 2010 had horrible defences, again you have to look at pearces performances in games where the defence has intensity.

State of origin - the games pearce played in, you need binoculars to see if he was still on the field.

Finals & grand final - as in the origin games

and games against the dragons and other teams who had defence - see above

The way Pearce plays seems to compliment the way the probable NSW five-eighth Todd Carney plays perfectly, no need to fix something if it isn't broken.

But if the majority of defences were bad wouldn't all halfbacks have similar stats?

teams lifted against certain teams for example

dragons - majority of times teams saved their strong defensive efforts against the dragons

surely Dugan can play halfback and fullback at the same time. we should only need maybe 7 or 8 other players in the team if we select Dugan. he can play as the whole backline at the very least.
