The rise and fall of Tim Sheens...

I thought it was a good article and made me wonder, where would we go if we lost Benji for 3 weeks?

Where would we go if we lost Sheens for a month (say an illness and I don't mean to wish anything bad on the guy) ?

With regards to Sheens, have the Tigers got a Plan B?
Think of the Knights, they kept their former coach when Bennett was signed, look at Saints, they always had a replacement for Bennett as did the Broncos. Is SG the long term Plan B?

I'd like to add that one of the problems with the CEO (because he should be the leader), was the fact that he came from QANTAS, at QANTAS, the management team stick by each other no matter what. It's because they are all as incompetent as each other so cannot and will not rock the boat by bagging another manager or calling one on a point of order - the CEO was part of that management team.

WHere would we be if we lost Sheens ? At least one comp to the good given a coach like Bennett, Bellamy or Hasler would have coached the instinct of how to kill a game into Benji after 2 seasons let alone 10

Was watching the Game Plan on one the other night and couldn't believe how much he was getting stuck into the players. Nothing was anyones fault except the players. When asked if Blair was value, he said "no, but hopefully will be". Great confidence boost for the guy if he was watching!
He really came across as he's there to manage a business and the players are a seperate enitity that are in his way.
Doesn't matter how crap things get, that kind of a public divide can never be good.

Those guys were busy coaching other teams. If you had sacked Tim you would have got Smith, Kearney, or maybe a Brown.

Nathan Brown has a red and white pedigree. He comes from a club with a rich heritage. Know your station in life. Tis Sheens or zilch. Actually a few of you might see zilch as a viable option at present LOL. :D

Our issues this season are pretty much all down to Sheens IMO.
Attitude has been rubbish, defence has been atrocious, attack has been lacking structure. All down to lack of preparation, planning and motivation.
What on earth were we doing over the off-season?
Amazing that the only stick he gets is an article implicitly blaming him.

But didn't you hear the great man this week?

"We've had a few issues with injuries and suspensions and some other teams have had a dream run, you'd like to think what goes around comes around."

There's always a f**king excuse. We only have a couple of injuries, we just deal with them poorly, like always. And perhaps those injuries and suspensions wouldn't have been as critical if super coach didn't go into the season knowingly two props short, eh?

Sheens stays with Tigers to finish the job
By AAP, 30 Apr 2011
Fresh from inking a new deal that will tie him to the Wests Tigers until the end of 2014, Tim Sheens revealed that he still has some unfinished business at the club.
Sheens knocked back a huge offer to return to Penrith, reportedly worth $2 million over four years, in favour of a three-year deal with the Tigers and he admitted a big factor behind his decision to stay was the impressive young group of players coming through.
Now in his ninth season at the club, Sheens guided the Tigers to the 2005 premiership with a talented team built around young stars headed by Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah, both of whom remain key figures.
“I’m really pleased with my decision, I have a lot of unfinished business here which I’m looking forward to tackling,” the Australian coach said in a statement.
Club chief executive Stephen Humphreys admitted he felt some relief: “We’re very pleased of course, but I don’t mind admitting I’m a little relieved as well,” Humphreys told AAP.
“At the end of the day Tim had a few things to way up.
“We’re all pleased he’s decided to stay at Wests Tigers and complete some of the business that he’s been heavily involved in to date.
“I know he’s very keen to continue to develop the exciting young talent coming into the side and that will emerge for the next year or two in first grade.
“I know that was a motivating factor for him to stay. He’s worked closely with the more senior players in this group for a few years too, so he wants to see the results of that as well.”
Humphreys said the fact Penrith had weighed in with a hefty offer eventually worked in the Tigers’ favour.
“Clearly the Penrith offer was a very tempting one, both in financial terms and in it’s length of term,” he added.
“It was an offer that certainly made him stop and have a think about it.
“But in hindsight it was probably welcome (by Wests Tigers) in some respects, sometimes you need a tangible alternative to realise what’s important to you and help you weigh up what you want.”
Humphreys also confirmed that Sheens would see out all three years as coach – contrary to reports which suggested the veteran mentor would be moved towards a coaching director role.
“The reports (that he would be considered as a coaching director in this contract) were off-the mark,” Humphreys said.
“I can see Tim fulfilling such a role in the future of course, but right now he’s just too effective as an NRL coach to take him away from that.”

For those with a sense of humour- I wonder what possible unfinished business Sheens had with the club? To totally f*** everything up by the time he leaves at end of 2014? I really hope Humphreys is held to account for this schemozzle as well as Teflon. Shouldnt have rushed to re-sign him.

2 more years, 2 more years, 2 more years...........

He was at the Cowboys for ages before the Tigers and they were always mediocre under him. He has some knack of constantly getting re-hired despite not getting results.

I bet Penrith are doing cartwheels right now. They signed Ivan Cleary and more importanly didn't sign Sheens.

Two wins isn't much of an improvement over one win.....I know who Gould would have taken as first choice coach.....

No better coach to manage the transition to the next generation of players. While disappointed with the results, we are likely to witness the promotion of a group of exceedingly talented footballers. Andrew Vela was already mentioned by our CEO as a possible replacement had he not been injured. Rather than take a short term view of things, look at the wider strategic picture to understand the club is in a strong position.

You only have to look at the Balmain SG Ball team to know there are very talented players coming into our ranks. The presence of Rudolph, Moses and Sironen in our club must surely bring a smile to the faces of supporters
