Payten wasn't the biggest loss. We spent most of 2011 without him.

Gibbs was the massive loss.

Lui was a loss, but not that significant if he had a 7 who could kick. Not a big requirement there to fill Lui's shoes.

The club released Gibbs two years too early. Fifita was a depth player if we retained Gibbs.

At the time Gibbs and Fifita were released to ease cap pressure Ellis was going to be here until the end of next year. Now Ellis is going a year early i'm sure there would have been more of an effort to retain atleast 1 of those players.

Good point. As much as I respect Ellis's need to go home early, his timing would have been much better if he could have let WT management know last year what he was thinking / feeling. Still good on him- family has to come first, couldnt do anything about that.

The man in the bike pants was our greatest loss, his defense was top class,he was the link between the forwards and the backs,he had a great ball skills and a good football brain.

What also hurts,is players that are making a great fist of the NRL with other clubs, who previously languished in the lower grades at either Wests or Balmain, whilst never getting a look in for the WT.Andrew Everingham is an example, after 3 seasons at Wests he took a chance and moved onto Souths after showing them a highlight package of himself on DVD, who knows how many other players are out there in our back yard that are more than capable NRL players, certainly not our coach or retention committee..!

Super Coach you are correct. Payten has been a huge loss. Players of his calibre do not come along often. The good news is Santi has many of Payten's attributes.

The decision to let Gibbs and Fifita go was correct if it meant retaining Woods and Groat.

So far as recruitment goes, our main effort should be via Wests, Balmain and Keebra. Seems to me the club is doing very well with junior development.

R2, I'm a little concerned. Although we have a couple of top players in the team, are you suggesting that the club released Gibbs & Fafita so they could keep the two young guys? Is our cap that badly slanted that we couldn't afford a couple of rookie props that would be on $150k tops? Even after they cut Lui? Come on, Lui's contract would cover those two easily I would've thought.. Depth in the forwards should never be sacrificed and that is what we've done. I hope that someone is already looking at purchases for next season!! Coach and more......

Yes, Sheens' confirmed the loss of Fifita was necessary to retain Woods and Groat. He chose which one would go to the Sharks. I say that because from what he advised, if it hadn't been Fifita, Woods or Groat would have gone.

In the case of Gibbs, I believe Bell has been a good replacement at much lower cost. I like Gibbs, his style of player and passion for the club but his move has probably been good for his family in terms of $. No one can begrudge him this after his service for WTs.

Don't despair, I keep saying this but Mosese F is a fine player with young Francis Fifita to come from Keebra.

Perhaps we could have kept Gibbs had we let Moltzen go to the Dragons in the first place?

Yep. Have to think it was a huge 'own goal' by WT to fight to keep him. Said it at the time- he should have honoured his word and gone to Saints. (no doubt they're laughing now)

Edit- yet again, a dumb / questionable action has unbalanced the team. Thinking and actions on the run I'd say with no long term plan to work to.

is he related to you know who?

it's been said before I know, look what Bellemy does with 'fringe' players - Ryan Tandy couldn't get a run under Sheens, Bellemy turned him into a 1st grader.

It has been reported that Benji has an area in the dressing room that only his friends are allowed to mingle in and this makes my blood boil. This would be part of the reasons why the tigers are so far off the pace - team harmony is paramount. Coach sheens contract should be severed immediately for either condoning it or allowing it to fester. Sheens has ran out of steam long ago and contract should never have been renewed.

Its true. I know because I am Benji. I also select the team, coach the team and manage the club.

So if you have a problem with me having my own section of the change room I think you should simply accept it. I have a lot of stuff to deal with on a daily basis.

I need some special benefits to make up for all the good work I do. The club is also paying for my private jet and customised diamond toilet that I get to sit on whereas all the other players have to go and mingle with each other. I deserve it.

I thought it was reasonable to not use DCE. Cronk & Thurston were going well and the game was still in doubt. There were no injuries that had to be covered. It'd be stupid to put DCE on, possibly upsetting the rhythm of the attack, just so the kid got some time on the field. Sheens does some dumb things with the bench, but this story smells like typical Manly whingeing.

He shouldnt have been on the bench in the first place.

Why you would carry a specialist half into a test match against a team with a MASSIVE forward pack is beyond me.

Although - and I detest Sheens - dont get me wrong - but does he select the test team?
