Hungary V Irish wolfhounds in Budapest 30th June. I assume that’s a domestic only Ireland?

Why don’t the RLIF say something about the Denver Test, and I don’t know, act like the peak body for the international game for a change

Be honest what has the game done since 2000 RLWC? Basicly the only nations that are producing professional players are Aus, Eng, NZ, France and PNG. Then you have Wales and Fiji that have produced a small amount.

Outside those seven nations the rest are just heritage based nations. Yes they may have domestic competitions being played but they are not producing professional players. Then the in house fighting, poor planning and pathetic eligibility rules will never see the game progress to a competitive RLWC where there are generally 4-5 nations that could win it.

There was similar articles last year about NRL players threatening to abandon the world cup. The Denver test has the backing of the NZRL, RFL and RLIF. Tickets and promotions for the game have begun so I highly doubt that it would be cancelled.

The Fiji player crisis however looks the most concerning

Paul Kent just made a idiot of himself on triple m's I call bullshit segment..

He called bullshit on the new ARLC chief wanting more Asian playing & watching RL,he tied that in by explain why the AFL played in China last year..it's not so much to expand into China/Asia..it's to get Australians with Asian decent/immigrants to support AFL...he brought that back to RL by saying...
"but we (nrl) have this game in Denver between England & nz with no clear north American strategy"

Correct Paul..the nrl doesn't have a north American strategy....BUT OTHER PARTIES DO!

the RLIF awarded north America a world cup in 2025...with the possibility of a warm up event in 2023..

Msi who are organizing the 2025 world cup, sign a 3 year deal to bring test footy doubleheader to Denver..increasing the exposure of rugby league to the American public prior to the world cup..

The RFL have one north American team in its system..and probably a second north american team by next year..

THATS A f**kING NORTH AMERICAN STRATERGY!!

obviously the issue is the NRL haven't come up with the idea and that's why they are against it...stupid merkins

It’s not an RLIF event. They have endorsed it as a sanctioned test, but the rest is up to the governing bodies organising it.

England can muster up a SL based team, but NZ cannot. What the promoter could have done is limit the number of players from each team to 3.

Some comments about players being contractors, blah blah blah, is silly.
Professional sport is a byproduct of amateur, grass roots participation. RL is a sport to provide exercise, team work, etc.
If there was no grassroots participation, there would be no fan base to allow for professionalism.

Simple answer is to proceed without the NRL for international RL

The NRL cannot ban players

Clubs may say dont go your injured

If true then I have no issue

If false then the the RLIF must enforce players to stand down for a week. The NZRL doctor and English medics will be the judge not club doctors

Plenty of other players who will jump at the chance to play

Same goes for Fiji and Lebanon

No... obviously the issue is that Paul Kent is a dumb f**kwit who doesn't speak on behalf of the NRL. Why do people get so outraged and blame the NRL when 9 times out of 10 the opinions are just those of f**kwit journalists trying to a. sound like they are in the know, and b. trying to sound like they are some authority, and c. trying to create outrage that doesn't exist to sell their shit publications. Have the NRL/ARLC (not just f**kwits who coach within in it) actually said anything other than they will fine clubs who don't release players. The RLPA is not the NRL... Ricky Stuart does not speak on behalf of the NRL... Nor does Wayne Bennett but he has already said Broncos players will be available for the game. Get angry sure, but start directing it at the right places and stop blaming the NRL for the worlds woes.

@roughyedspud where are these supposed Cups and Qualifiers that the RLEF organise btw

Yet to see any hint of them

RLEF just posted this on facebook:

THE ROAD TO THE 2021 RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD CUP BEGINS IN VRCHLABI

The town of Vrchlabi will host the preliminary stage of the European qualifying route to the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England, when the Czech Republic host Norway on 30th June.

It will be the opening fixture in Euro C which will comprise six nations split north and south. Germany are the other nation in the north group; Greece, Malta and Ukraine in the south. The respective group winners will face an elimination game at a neutral venue for promotion to Euro B and a place in the next stage of World Cup qualification, which will take place in autumn 2019.

Euro B will be played in October 2018 between Russia, Spain and Serbia, with the top two advancing to the 2019 qualification tournament and the bottom nation relegated to Euro C.

RLIF Chief Executive Officer David Collier said: “Integrating competitions with the European World Cup qualifiers provides added meaning to the games, which is one of the international federation’s key objectives.

“The increasing number of member nations vying for a World Cup berth is further evidence of the growth of the sport, while the launch of preliminary qualification comes a year earlier than for the 2017WC, which is another sign that significant tournaments are being strategically positioned in the RLIF calendar.”

Further details of the next stage of European qualifying will be announced shortly, Netherlands and Latvia opted not to enter the process.

European Championship B & C Fixtures

European Championship B: Spain v Russia (Valencia, 6 October); Russia v Serbia (Moscow, 13 October); Serbia v Spain (Belgrade, 20 October)

European Championship C - North: Czech Republic v Norway (Vrchlabi, 16 June); Germany v Czech Republic (Osnabrück, 25 August); Norway v Germany (Porsgrunn, 15 September)

European Championship C - South: Malta v Ukraine (Marsa, 30 June); Ukraine v Greece (Kharkov, 8 September); Greece v Malta (Athens, 15 September)

Which means 9 nations will take part in the first round of qualifiers, up from 7 from last time (Czech Republic, Germany & Norway are added, with Italy now the level above)

If there was no grassroots participation, there would be no fan base to allow for professionalism.

Except that it's 100% accurate...

All of the problems that are being faced in this case could have been avoided if people stopped looking at the NRL (and professional RL as a whole) as just a game and a hobby, and started looking at it like what it is- a business.
If it was viewed that way everybody would have seen the problem coming from a million miles away and something could have been done to avert it, but instead everybody seems to suffer from cognitive dissidence that once you get to the international level the business side of things just stop and RL becomes a noble pursuit that is above the baser impulses of the market and the capitalist system, it's not above the baser impulses of capitalism, it never has been and it never will be.

Frankly some of you lot are starting to sound like pre-professionalism RU supporters with some of the stuff you say...

If you want things to really change you should be petitioning the NRL (and SL for that matter) for cap exemptions for clubs that lose players to injuries sustained during rep games, and petitioning for some sort of scheme for compensation to clubs that lose players during their seasons to internationals, cause if those things existed none of this would have happened and their wouldn't be an issue with this game being played in Denver...

Genuine question what difference does it make if you lose a player for a season in November or June?

I really like the concept where winners of Tier 3 series qualify for RLWC Qualifiers

No one should ever be excluded from a RLWC process. Unless they havent met the basic criteria
