The Roosters' bandwagon

Do the facts matter or don't they? The Rooster have averaged just on 11,000 since 1957. Same as every other Sydney club. Good seasons come and good seasons go, and when they come, the average goes up slightly. Then it falls again as fortunes fluctuate.

1976 was a good year for the Roosters re crowds. They had players like Fairfax, Beetson, Coote, Mayes, Schubert, etc. The crowds went along to watch them. More recently the Roosters have had players such as the charismatic Brad Fittler, Luke Ricketson, the likeable Fletcher, Jason Cayless, etc. The crowds came along to watch those players, too. The Roosters won the premiership in 2002. Now that team is all but gone -- only 3 players remain -- and crowds will probably plateau out again as results deteriorate until the next upward spiral.

I don't understand how an entire thread can be made about such a simple and obvious trend. For most clubs -- especially Sydney clubs -- the crowds go up (slightly) when the team is filled with crowd pleasing players and is winning -- and it goes down (slightly) when the team is losing. There will always be exceptions, particularly in one team towns such as Newcastle and Brisbane.

But a whole thread on crowds going up and down according to results? Come on ...
