Was chatting to a media guy I know today & was told the club has been talking to Des who is keen to come & as early as round 10, depending on results.
One major issue is Doust (surprise, surprise )is totally against it as he thinks Des is too much his own man who can’t be controlled 🤬🤬
I'd rather not with Des if I'm honest. Young guys at Manly didn't seem to flourish under him and we're only just now getting our salary cap in shape after it being so bad for so long. Not a bad coach by any means Des, but his style just seems to be a polar opposite to the direction our club wants to go. I'd consider something like what has been suggested with Des being in charge for two years before Ryles takes over, but Des I don't see as a long term option.

Tend to agree.
I’d have him nowhere near our salary cap & yes he can be reluctant to use a junior ahead of the tried. Would be ok for a couple of years to install some backbone & pride back into the club.

The issue you then have is who manages the salary cap and recruitment? Haran seems to have proved himself as incapable and having a coach there who can't make an impact on the roster is pretty pointless. Just on a side note too, my god Doust is an issue.

Parko,
give des 2 years structure the contract so he doesnt have absolute power . he seems to get the best out of players look at garrick for example and maybe we can tap into crusher cleal and his talent spotting .. we need somebody that can play tough with the players and des does more than 5 up and kick .. wouldnt it be great to have a coach that could have us playing an attacking type of game.. and we need to stop this giving players 2 year deals to play for us just so they "break ' their contracts then they usually become liabilities in 2nd year and we are stuck with them

Can someone please explain how a draft would work? Would we keep Bud and Sloan or would they go to another club? Is there any reward to produce juniors?

Saw on NRL 360 that Milford is on the outer at the Dolphins already.
I got a baddddddd feeling about this....
If Mbye and Turner go down Milf would be a great replacement at 6, with Sullivan 4 min game time from the bench of course.

Hook footy.

He's overrated, apparently a lazy trainer who goes missing in games. He's an ex bronco who is nearing 30. Has 'Griffin signing' written all over it. Get Norman back while we are at it. Plenty of bums to poke here too.

Yes he is Parko. Last time I saw him give an interview was 7 or 8 years ago. He was slurring his works and talking absolute nonsense. How the hell is he still there?

If Bennett can not get the best out of Milford nobody can. Rarely do you see Bennet come out and slam his own player. Mind you he had Milford and Hunt in the halves in the GF when Bronco's played the Cowboys. Has Saints written all over it as I am sure Hunt and Hook will like the ex-bronco combo just like they did the Norman/Hunt combo.

That would be a disaster if Saints get Milford but something us fans would expect with this recruitment team.

He is 28 years old and looked sensational when he started, what a waste of talent. His next stop should be England where he would kill it.

Des had a good young team in Manly with the young DCE, Stewart Bro's and Foran. He can do something similar at Saints. Then went to the Dogs who have no junior development and stopped using juniors for some reason because they have this open chequebook salary cap worse than the chooks. I get that people feel he has no care for juniors of late but certainly did so at Manly when he had his most successful period of coaching. Hopefully he feels Saints are capable of that with their nursery and junior talent .The Manly board are one of the few like Saints that make really dumb choices and looking at the debacle last year appeared to have more say that people think over Des but Des was often the fall guy.

If Saints go down Des's path, they should only give him a 2 year deal with Ryles as his assistant or even Dean Young.

One thing I do like about Des though is he does give it to the officials and I feel Saints cop it worse than others which he will put a stop to. Also not many players want to leave a Des coach side. Very rarely are they looking for a release like we are seeing now. Players seem to really like him. Des also does adapt well to new rule changes like he did with the 6 again. Turbo excelled and won Daly M that year because of it. Des may also bring in some 3rd parties to help the cap.

Bellamy more or less announced this will be his last year so I am assuming the Storm will be chasing Ryles if not Slater depending on how he goes for Qld. If he wins a 2nd Origin series his stocks will go up and Slater I can only imagine would only want to go back to the Storm to coach.

Well Said
Would def go with Hasler for a 2 year term and either Ryles , Mark Bretnall ( current dep at storm ) Carr or Woolfe , depending on how they go throughout this season....

We wouldn't have Suli if Des had picked him ahead of Parker and Harper. I don't rate Suli a world beater but surely he's got more to offer than either of those worthies. For mine, Des is an OCD type of person- his enthusiam and energy is attractive to players and officials for a while, but eventually he drives you nuts.

Didn't Des bring Woods to the Dogs then punted him a year later? What a reunion that will be. Same with Suli. Both punted by Des. Goes to show no matter who you are and how good you are, if you don't put in you get punted with Des as coach.
