i have to agree, i assume hes weighing up his love for parra vs prolonging his career
I think its this (such a loyal bloke by nature) + can he make it work from his beloved northern beaches home.. surely there are only a handful of clubs that would be any easier for him to access.. but how often does he train at the gong per week, like 1 or 2? We must be able to sort out a crash pad.. Kogarah training wouldnt be too bad.. I mean its further but doable.. esp if they leave early.... but I can definitely see his dilemma.. but end of the day I think we are his only choice (parra aside).

Failing that he just moves for a few years.. I mean he might get extended at parra, but it seems very unlikely..

Until it’s announced we haven’t

Surely the Gordons have some real estate in the Gong they could organise for him to live in for a few years Politis organises these arrangements for some of his key signings.

I would just like to clarify that the Dragons are possibly the only team that has made him a reasonable offer ( that we know of) whatever the offer is , either take it and make it work or leave it and see out your career at Parra. All this other crap has to be on the player with the amount of money they are getting, plus if he does move for a couple of years I'm sure there are people at the club employed to help facilitate that move. This is not a good look, so the Dragons are the last option, and if he does come its purely for the money. He knows what the score was at Parra and SF has told him what he wants at the Dragons. Its all on Gutho either make it work or piss off.

It took some time but he has recovered well. It is certainly very traumatic for people who have to go through it. Hopefully Cody is through the other side and it sounds like he is keeping positive and trying to contribute where he can. Wish certain people in our team had the same attitude.

Happy to hear about your boys recovery. Great news.
Agree re attitude sentiment btw.

I mean he can just move an hour away from the northern beaches to the shire for a couple years and rent out the beaches house.. then rent out the shire house when he finishes up at the Dragons.. it really isn't a huge deal. His partner, manager and family would surely be giving him the same advice, take the big contract now. He's potentially losing over a million dollars if he stays at parra when you think long-term, and that doesn't even take into account the future extra cash he'll get from increasing his real estate portfolio.

This move ticks a lot of boxes for him in terms of setting him up for the future, and if I'm not mistaken he's got a young kid? The deal sets up the young family longer term as well. Plus, the Shire has plenty of beaches so the only real difference in lifestyle is that the northern beaches are slightly more secluded I suppose. Not that much difference though and he still gets to live in Sydney. I just think he would be absolutely mad not to leave Parra whether he feels a sense of loyalty to them or not. At the end of the day it would be a mental decision to stay given how well a move to us sets him up for the future.

I looked it up.. 2021 was his first (and only) kid afaik, so its a little tricky with school kind of kicking off mid-contract in that 4.5-6yr age bracket.. you dont want to change schools if you can help it.... then throw in I assume his family support is in the area also.... he was born in mona vale and I think lived their his entire life (gods country I promise ya), the fact that he has commuted to Parramatta for 10yrs means location is very important for him.

But like you said, he has to weight up another million bucks, and whats he willing to do for it.. ur retired a long time as they say... I think the solution is for him to be away a night or 2 a week from home.. its rly not that big a deal, unless he has another baby incoming or something.. but I see the barrier.

Mentally he has to flick that switch that hes going to 'make it happen'... the chances of him getting a gig anywhere closer is surely next to naught.. everyone else has gun fullbacks.

I did a social media search, he doesnt rly use it so no insight there.. he has time to reflect on his decision while on his family holiday.. returns back at some point this week Flanno said.. even if he was keen it might take some to nut out the deal and get parra signoff.. or he may decline.. either way we need to know so we can go hunt the next target..

Rev, its a good post mate, but, the good clubs put offers to players and tell them to have an answer by a certain date, end of story. It's ridiculous for any player to think they are going to spend their life at one club, the NRL reflects a National competition. They are paid more than enough money to have their kids at the best schools, there are support networks the clubs provide, and they get a huge payday that should cater for travel and probably the purchase of a new house. All I'm saying is the Dragons have been put on hold while he thinks about it or a better offer comes in. He would know what he wants and what is best for his family, no need to go on a holiday to think about it.

I cant help but think that Gutho is not coming, its been long enough, we all know that if a deal needed to be done it would have by now, his manager wouldn't be mucking around. Same as Hunt getting tapped up by another team. Maybe they are not allowed to say anything until Nov 1. It really is a stressful period not having any clue as to what is going on, wish they had a trade period like the AFL.
I don’t think his manager would be too concerned at the moment knowing Flanno is keen. It could get interesting though if it actually gets to the negotiating table.

Agree ffs the club should also have a gut feel & decide whether or not they are wasting their time also.

No way, they have too many backs already to fit into the team and 2 fullbacks in Turbo and Hopoate
Yar Gutho's dream would be to play for Manly again... but on top of Turbo & Hopoate... Faulalo and Koula are also in the squad.. its not a bad pipe-line.. tbh I would have thought we were a crack at dislodging 1 of those.. but I would hsave said that about the Titans fullbacks, or even the Sharks who have guys like Dykes, Atkinson, Kennedy, Hynes & Ison all of which could potentially fill that #1 jersey.... hopefully we jag atleast 1 off them for our halves problem.

The other thing for Gutho is hes on pretty big coin.. its not the sort of money most clubs could pick up.. and certainly not for 2-3 years.. its just for some reason we have had a real problem with our pipeline of backs.. in particular fullback.. im not sure ive felt comfortable there since Darius Boyd & maybe Josh Dugan left..
