Docbrown any chance we could see the regional teams have their away games broadcast on fta into their respective regions while being simulcast on fox?

That's the kind of thing that I'd like to see but it all depends on who gets what.

If/when Channel 10 get what they want with every game, they will be directly targeting markets in such a fashion. What restrictions the ARLC would be placing on that remains to be seen.

Ideally it would be every away game except for inter-Sydney games. Inter-sydney games should be on a case by case basis (broadcast the bigger matches, rivalry games etc).

The whole point of the 10/Fox Sports concept is that you'd choose the service that suits you. Free access but with advertising - or - premium service ad free with additional content.

GAL CHIP OFF OLD BLOCKER

CHANNEL Ten executives are continuing to make a massive play to secure the NRL television rights from the rival Nine Network in a bidding war tipped to top $1 billion.

And Ten's latest weapon is NSW and Cronulla Sharks captain Paul Gallen.

Gallen will replace Steve Roach on The Game Plan for the next fortnight, with 'Blocker' at the London Olympics to watch his son Aidan compete for Australia in water polo.

"I'm a big fan of the show and while I still have a couple of years on the field left yet, it could be a stepping stone post-footy," Gallen said.

"One thing is for sure, big Blocker is going to leave a pretty massive seat to fill."

Nine boss David Gyngell is on record as saying he won't let the rights go, but Ten chiefs Lachlan Murdoch and James Warburton are also going all in.

Off topic a bit: I was listening to Rabs call the swimming last night with so much passion and enthusiasm for the sport. He knew all the swimmers from all the nations and had done his research for each event.

After hearing him, I wonder where all that has gone in RL. He just doesn't show the same emotion he used to for regular season games and doesn't sound like he follows all the happenings in league like he should.

Rabs has been calling swimming for decades , but this is the first time he's ever called an Olympics.

He'd be like a kid in a candy shop calling at the games , not hard to see why he'd be super excited and prepared.

A great way to finish a fine career.

It's pretty easy to call swimming anyway, they all stay in their lanes, only 8 people to look for and probably only 2-3 you need to focus on per race.

Too much going on in League these days for Rabs to keep up.

Maybe he should try his hand at calling GWS games.Behind,behind,behind.
Easy for senility.

Looks like they are going to trial Sunday night live games with a 5.30pm KO in Perth 7.30Pm show on East coast. Would Sunday night live rate well?

The Herald understands the ARLC is keen on the matches to help provide a new Sunday evening timeslot to sell to television networks as part of the new broadcast deal, and Western Australia Rugby League chief executive John Sackson confirmed plans to play at least three games in Perth next season.
''The networks are looking at how they can best leverage the time difference and I have heard that they are looking at the prospect of twilight games on a Sunday,'' Sackson said.

I believe doc alluded to the ability to cut into the opposing channels 6pm news on a Sunday night. So for 10 on Sunday, they could go

3pm Live game
5pm News
6pm Pre-Game
6:20 Kick off

Game would be done by 8:30/9pm for whatever show they want to piggyback off the NRL.

Earlier game on Sunday gets the kids home early for school as well.

Pretty sure the Sunday 6pm news is the highest or one of the top 5 rating shows every week. I dont think they would start the NRL game until 6.30pm.
