The money is more than double what they got before, with a fixed schedule for the majority of the comp, and for only 8 games a week.

You know what this is going to mean for the Game and clubs that have been living on a shoestring for 20 years??

I think most of you overlook that the NRL is now cashed up. We will be in a much better position to grow the game, via bums on seats at grounds (maybe discounted club memberships). Better advertising of the game via Contra, hopefully similar to what we see the AFL get.

No mention of the introduction of new teams, but maybe that is being held back as an extra announcement around Grand Final time.

For me I am pretty pleased with what has been achieved, and when the rights come up next time, we should be in a much better position to dictate terms. Especially as the AFL on Fox doesn't seem to be delivering the returns that were expected, and that will impact their next deal in a big way. It will also put big question marks on their 2 new franchises, whom they will be hoping aren't still bleeding money.

Two hours of Rugby League content each evening on digital Channel 94 plus two hours of content on Saturday and Sunday morning;
= Re-runs of the footy show and what poses as the roast these days...

Nine paying a motza for three games. One live. I'll be watching on the internet on Sunday arvos. No advertising to me you cant's. I think they've done well tbh. The only thing for me is the 7.15pm GF kick off.

Holding them over the barrel, getting a 100% increase on $$$$ and forcing them to forego First and Last Rights already sets us up for an even bigger and better deal in 5 years. The shortfalls in this deal are the cost of true Independence.

I give them a an 8 / 10. Would have been 9 if they didn't f**k off the GF to 7.15 pm.

Still. This is great for the game. Money to the grassroots and a fair dinkum second tier comp are where the game will benefit.

Gyngell is a beligerant merkin. Pay up you merkin.

Timmy, honest question. Have you seen the difference in coverage from FoxHD to the trash nine serve up?

I'm guessing you haven't. Given that so many other TV shows are now broadcast in HD it's laughable that Nine would spend this much money on something and then broadcast it as if they filmed it with their sons first handheld.

Hell, watch an NFL or NBA game for two minutes. The difference in quality isn't even night and day. It's spectacular and f**king embarassing.

I watch streams and they do the job. I would much prefer to have it in HD, but if that is going to cost me $80 a month via Fox to get, then I prefer not to subsidise the AFL deal.

Yes, my parents have got HD, yes the picture is infinitely better, the picture is beautiful, but I just don't see it as being as significant issue as others.
