Occasionally you have to delay a game so you can fit ads in to pay for these rights.

1 out of 3 games in any given game week is not f**king "occasional"

Sure, but is it really that big of a deal? f**k, I can watch a streamed rugby league game and still love it.

Yeah I think HD was my very last concern.

The delayed Sunday game is the sticking point for me, but otherwise I think the deal's pretty good. It is a massive improvement on the last one. This deal was obviously about getting the game the money it deserves and fixing the scheduling. Hopefully the next one really focusses on the telecasting.

Brb one fta game live a week. 4 live Afl games a week in nsw and qld to 1 NRL. How the f**k can the ARLC agree to this! That's inexcusable. BRB AFL are laught

The press conference is at 11am.

I hear that Fox threatened to reduce its part of the deal if 7 won the F2A rights as they're trying to block a 7 buyout.

And that a problem with the first and last rights bullshit that the ARL caved into when fox broke the NRL deal.

If these rights have been relinquished there is a much better chance of a much better deal for fans next time around.

Two hours on Saturday and Sunday morning is great, plus the additional hours through the week.

This will mean that Fox will lift their output too.

Anyone saying Grant is a muppet etc has nfi what theyre talking about. This deal is outstanding for the NRL and puts the game in a position to well and truly flourish, but not so good for the average fan.

I never understood why they couldn't start the telecast at 3pm, and just have the game delay as it went along ie ads breaks could be inserted, and the game would pick up from where it left off, it would still be close to live, close enough for me to be happy anyway. Once the game is finished, you could have a highlights of the rest of the games of the round, or get guys discussing the game in general. It would still fill in the time till 6pm.

Exactly. Thats the key to the deal for me.

also people missing out on how massive it is that Fox and 9 will no longer have first and last rights
It truly doesnt f**king matter.
People wanted a change from whats being served up now. Not to wait 5 f**king years and hope something changes then, but guess what. This deal shows nothing will change the NRL and the commission will whore themselves out for money rather whats good for the game.
I think most of you overlook that the NRL is now cashed up. We will be in a much better position to grow the game, via bums on seats at grounds (maybe discounted club memberships). Better advertising of the game via Contra, hopefully similar to what we see the AFL get.
Wont happen. NRL/IC doesnt care about what the people want. This just showed they have no forward thinking and truly dont give a f**k about anything but money.
They wont discount tickets, they wont discount memberships.
Nothings going to change.

so you'd prefer less cash?

the cash is what will help grow the game, not how many are shown live on FTA

In my experience, people obsessed with their beautiful LED/3d and its picture quality watch shit movies.

I started watching Rugby League on a shitty NEC CRT, if it means more money for the game I can deal with channel 9 broadcasting SD for the time being.

Gygnell basically said "we paid for the rights if we want Broncos every Friday night that's what will happen"

merkin.

That's was my concern with a fixed schedule. Even a lower team doing well still won't get a FTA game if Ch 9 are selecting them.

Then again, I suppose that's no different to now.:(

To everyone saying this is about the cash and not the coverage of the NRL... WTF!?!?!?! Inflation means we will always have to negotiate a price rise especially after 5 years...

Did someone really say something along the lines of "No HD!!! GRRR. Thank god for illegal streams!!!" Yeah, much better quality in streams.

No mention of the introduction of new teams, but maybe that is being held back as an extra announcement around Grand Final time.

For me I am pretty pleased with what has been achieved, and when the rights come up next time, we should be in a much better position to dictate terms. Especially as the AFL on Fox doesn't seem to be delivering the returns that were expected, and that will impact their next deal in a big way. It will also put big question marks on their 2 new franchises, whom they will be hoping aren't still bleeding money.

its a great deal
anyone who says it isn't has Sh.it for brains

yeah
lets take 700 million so we get one extra live game on FTA
& the picture is clearer :o:sarcasm::crazy:

god some posters in here have NFI

It would have a lower news lead in.
